I've researched and I think...

A touareg is like a bell tent but with a door either side

A de Waard (an albatross is one of these?) are v v £££ but v v lovely

I think a cabanon Guadalupe (305x480) or the larger Barbados (350x520) are more similar in shape to a dewaard albatross

The palamos is again similar in shape - they all have that nice curved arse bit I think

The palamos is bigger (560x390) and has a ZIG

I think I want a palamos - biggest, cheapest, ZIG

But I may have missed a vital bit of info, such as no of guys and build quality

I'm off to research more

Bear in mind with the Touareg (assuming it is the Belltent.co.uk one you have seen) that if you can make the journey to Holland, or arrange for delivery to somewhere else in mainland Europe, (eg.a French campsite) you can save over £100 by buying direct from Obelink. Once again, Belltent are selling Obelink's tents and now Obelink won't ship them direct to the UK. They did this with bell tents and it is getting really boring.

The more I see the Palamos the more I think it is an excellent tent. Im not sure it has the rounded arse of the deWaards, but then neither does the toureg.
My friend had a toureg and there was some issue she had with it, something she wasnt keen on, I will try to find out.
DeWaard are the dogs bollocks they really are. they do have literally hundreds of guy ropes, and that can take as long as forever to put up if you are horribly anal about your ropes all being exactly 'right' but that could pretty much be said about any tent. They do need 2 hands to do unlike a bell tent which I can do on my own.
just added pics of our latest deWaard onto my profile

Yes I went through all that obelink twattishness when we got our bell tent

Certainly leaves a bad taste, and with belltentuk too, who presumably are involved in their anticompetitive arrangement

Thanks for your pics nettletea. Off to peruse

for that reason alone I wouldnt buy from them...... I expect they've pumped their prices right up for the UK market.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion

But.....I really really like the palamos.......

But I like our bell too, any idea how they differ internally?
We've two small children and the one big open space has worked well for us. I live the feeling of space in the hell and I like lying in bed with my babies around me looking at the pointy bit

I can only compare a 5m bell with a deWaard. I take the inner bedroom bits out of the dewaard because of our glamping business - they just zipout anyway - and so I feel that the pyramid has more usable space whilst still retaining the curve of the bell at the back. It seems bigger, and given the corners at the front it IS bigger - plus you can stand up throughout the whole front area and walk in and out without bending over. Having had carpets made to fit the curve at the back is deceptive on the inside - its alot squarer than it looks and quite alot is flat along the very back wall, but from the outside its all curvy and lovely.

I havent seen a palamos in the flesh but I think its more rectangular rather than rounded??

I have a Palamos sitting here in the box....... been raining ever since it arrived :-(
The ZIG swung it for me. We are upgrading from a 5m bell tent to try and get more headroom
Ordered from Obelink on the Sun eve and it arrived Thurs. I was very impressed with their customer service. I emailed a question on the Saturday and they replied within 7 minutes!

That De Waard is a vergrote Zilvermeuuw (an 'enlarged' herring gull) with a vario canopy

Love their names nettletea

I'd love one, but soo expensive. I think the palamos might be a good compromise but there's the twatty obelink meanness issue

Where does a cabanon fit in? They have a SIG I believe which is off putting

The de Waards are SIG tooif that makes you feel better. There is a site called 'Joy of Canvas' which has alot of info about canvas tents on it - might be worth a look. And UKCampsite has a review section
