What are your tips on keeping a tent cool in the hot weather?

We are into our third year of camping in our Khyam Montreal and I have how to keep everybody warm and snug at night (thanks MN) but last year when we went we had to get out and stay out of the tent by 10am as it was sooooo hot inside.I appreciate it will be warmer in our polyester tent rather than a poly/cotton one (working on hubby for an upgrade one day) but do you have any tips for keeping the tent cool other than open all doors and windows?Any ideas or advice would be great. Thanks.

Camp under the shade of a tree, at the time of day you'd most like it to cool down a bit.

Pitch it with the prevailing wind blowing in through the tent door. Pitch at the top of the campsite too, or wherever seems like it'll catch the wind most.

Get a lightweight tarpaulin/flysheet and some string / bungee cords and improvise an extended awning from the tent / car boot / handy trees etc.

Don't know how it would work for the tent itself but for our cool box we drape a wet towel over the top of it - the evaporation draws off heat keeping the cool box cooler.

When we camp in France and the weather is hot, we just live outside, only using the tent for sleeping, when it is usually cooler in the evenings.
