Camping

Slubbers new tent and my old tent

I pitched my vintage canvas a frame tent at the weekend but due to camping in the forest adopting the gulag style of customer service I was forbidden from sleeping in it. It was a thing of beauty

Oh come on it's be back later, has been in use on mn like FOREVER [eye roll]

Anyway you giant amateur here is the new tent. Lovely she is, and so light, and the poles omg so strong and yet weigh no more than a gossamer thread.

First outing proper this weekend.

Why were you not allowed to sleep in your tent then?

How will you all fit in that? Lovely though . Dh was muttering about going back to tenting and I said only if we go minimal and small.

Camping I the gulag forest have all sort on bizarro new rules about campers and tents apparently. They kept leaping out from behind trees and barking orders at us.

I got the 3 man for when I go with just me and the dds, or like this weekend with dh so we can spread ou a bit. If a la train works out then I'll get the two man version for when we all go. It'll only be a few more years before the girls want to be well shot of us anyway.
She is beautifully taut when pitched I'll say that much. With lots of mossie netted doors.

I am not understanding why you couldnt sleep in your tent at a campsite. Seems a rather bizarrio rule. So you pitched her and then had to admire from a distance?

Trouty, yy the citadel is veh nice too.

What rule forbade you from sleeping in your tent Caerlaverock? What a strange rule for a campsite to have.

We were in the campervan bit (incidentally right next to the tent bit) and there was much hooha about whether we would be sleeping in said tent so we said it was for storage. The rudeness of the site manager was breath taking. Luckily it was such a nice weekend we rose above it.

Oh what a shame, and how extraordinary. Some site owners really enjoy their rules don't they. My favourite of this season is 'no boules to be played outside the tents'. And about time too. The number of times I've been sat quietly outside my tent and some utter utter bastard has come along with his pétanque kit RUINING the ambience.

Blu · 21/09/2012 12:42

ohhh. I have heard lots of camp site managers saying no to tents and camper vans in the same bit. I suspect there might be some regulation about it. Licensing or H&S or something.

I suspect many a French camper has an asbo - an 'anti-social boules order'.

That is a shame. We stayed at a site on the North Norfolk coast the other weekend which was a strange mix of beautiful-and-wild and regimented-and-corporate. There was a shiny, smoked glass reception where the female staff wore knee length grey skirts and blazers. But even they were still happy to mix tents with campervans.

I also have to confess that there was bunting involved last weekend

No.

I don't know what to do with that confession.

Sad

Blu's anti-social boules order takes the edge off a bit.

I thought you were WITH me? Us against the axis of bunted evil.

Splitter.

It was d's friends birthday! They draped it over vintage canvas and it did look v. Sweet but then they moved over to their own tent. It was so wrong but it was so right

I thought you'd like it. Next mission is to find a photo of The Stealth caravan peeking out from behind a bush.

That caravan is at Hurstmonxeux (sp?) is it not?

I love that place - just like Tracy Island when they open the observatory rooves.

Quenelle - what N Norfolk site was that? Was it Kelling?

Says Crawley Sussex. Is that the same place Blu? My eye was drawn to the dome thingumy. I like a nicely staged caravan shot.

Quenelle I stayed in my first uk site this year where the staff were in corporate uniform. And I got a welcome pack as well. Not just a list of rules, a pack with many brochures.

We stayed at a freaky place with piped music and a sofa in the regally appointed shower block. The rest of the site was a shithole Obv naice loos were VERY important to them

Blu - yes it was.

Slubber - we didn't get a welcome pack but we did get a map of our pitch with instructions of exactly where to put car, tent and awning. And which way the tent should face.

Mind you, the pitch opposite was filled up completely with a VW T5 camper, a caravan and a four-man tent. There were two adults. a young teenage girl and a dog staying on it.
