Have wanted to go all summer and now have convinced DH that we should splash out on one last UK night away given the weather so going in Sat. Am v excited. Any tips to make the most of it from anyone who's been before?

The cakes in the cafe are lovely. Not cheap, but lovely. In fact you can have fab breakfasts in the cafe, and a beer later, if you like. V civilised.

And the walk to the ice caves is good, and takes you to a nice spot with a stream - there was a rope swing over it when we went.

Camp down in one of the far fields right up against the woods, unless you want to camp IN the woods. They sell you a big load of wood for a fire and you can hire one of their grills fo cooking over the camp fire if you haven't got one. Like this

Thanks Blu. Can you take your car into the far fields or do you need to leave it at Reception? Either way is OK but good to know whether to put everything into bags or if we can do what we normally do and use the car as a massive cupboard next to the tent. What's it like cooking over a campfire with the grill? We've just 'invested' heavily in a Cobb so doubt Dh is going to want to part with additional cash for a grill on top of the gulp £25 a night for 3 of us plus the £5 for wood

you can take your car into the both the near and far field - it's just the woods you can't park in. camping in the woods was cold even in summer - so i'd avoid now (though it's very cool.)

the far field is prob you best bet if you don't mind being far from the facilities. very jealous - dh working this weekend or we would be there with you

Love, love, Love Forgewood!!! I'm so jealous - if we did not have commitments this weekend we would be there too.

I know its too late now but I would recommend not camping in the woods - dark and cold early.

Fab site though isn't it. I was hoping that the good weather would carry on for this week so I could go again, but no Sad
