I'd love a pop up family tent. Love the idea of not having to faff for ages to get the tent up. Would ideally like one that has 1 large bedroom and a large living area but that is standig height too..... Any ideas?

Also what the difference between pop up and instant/quick potch tents....
Help please!!!

I doubt that you could get a pop up that big, it would be enormous when folded!

We saw loads of these whilst on holiday this year www.amazon.co.uk/Quechua-1106366-Tent-Base-seconds/dp/B0046GA3CE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316036370&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21
Not sure if they are truly tall enough to stand up in,but not far off.

Didn't see anyone taking them down either, but the reviews are good

Have a look at the Vango Airbeam. Instead of poles, it has channels which you pump full of air. When fully inflated, the "poles" are rock hard. They literally take a couple of mins to pitch. The pump comes with the tent.

Although there have been mixed reviews on UK Campsite with regard to the robustness of the airbeams, and the fact that a number of tents have leaked Vango's Customer Service seem to intervene quite quickly.

They are ridiculously expensive though, (£650 for a 4 berth I think off the top of my head) and I'm speaking as a Vango tent lover. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were a sensible price.

We bought a Quechua 4 man pop up this year and it is absolutely fantastic.

It would be snug for 4 of you in the bedroom but not overly uncomfortable. DH, 2yo DS and I can sit round a table in the living area and DH and I can stand up.

It took 8 minutes to put up including pegging out. And the same to take down.

It cost £99 + £5ish delivery direct from Decathlon. We absolutely adore it.

The Vango one reminds me of the old PTC Igloo we had when I was a kid. We used to fit mum, dad and three kids in there. It blew up one night though after a particularly hot day.

Ahhh memories... Smile

People rave about these don't they? Ther's another one with one sleeping pod, too.

I have a Quechua 2.4 Base Seconds which I love. The living area isn't huge but it's fine for 2 adults and 2 children (tend to sit outside anyway unless it's raining). It's about 6ft high in the living area

4.2, 2.4, whatever :o If you can get yourself to a Decathlon, you can see what it looks like set up. Or you can just be a devil-may-care person like me and order it over the internet and hope for the best. I do have to watch the video on how to take it down every now and then because I'm paranoid about breaking the poles by folding it wrong :o

I agree with ChristinedePizan. If you can have a little practice in your garden first. I can imagine it would be great entertainment for everyone else on the campsite, watching someone who doesn't know what they're doing wrestle the tent back into the little bag.

I find it helps to imagine it's a huge version of one of those promotional nylon frisbees you get. They twist and fold in half to into a little disc-shaped bag in exactly the same way but on a much smaller scale.

I have the 4.1 (now discontinued) and can wrestle it quite easily back into the bag, under 5 mins. I practiced twice at home and watched the video loads. I love it!

I cannot for the life of me get my tesco pop up beach shelter back in, but the tent, no problems. Even in the pouring rain!

mefifi that was a blessed relief about the Tesco beach shelter - I'm not the only one who cannot for the life of me get the blardy thing back in the bag! Been looking at the Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 as my first tent purchase and would you believe it was the Tesco beach shelter fiasco that was putting me off purchasing. No more! Am off the Decathalon website to do the business this evening Grin, so thank you.

You won't regret it spongefinger. We bought on the recommendation of a mumsnetter and after watching the youtube video on how to put it up. Next year we might get an extension pod for storing bits in, to leave the middle area a bit clearer. Enjoy Smile

Ordered and awaiting delivery Grin. YouTube vids stored on iPod and watched several times already. Have even found a vid to show me how to fold and store the ELC Pop-Up Pool, so just need to search for one on the Tesco Beach Shelter and will have the full set!! (surely someone's done one?)

Due to the warm weather the Tesco pop-up tent came out yesterday. The desire to just throw that thing out is overwhelming!!

With you on that one, if I could be arsed to get the darned thing out of the net bag it's wedged into! Grin
