windbreaks

just incase anyone else is looking for a cotton windbreak i have just found these on sale in GLTC for £35

they have three little pockets.
i have just bought two for my bell tent/tent wing setup.

They are indeed very pretty but at not much more than the price of one you could have a blue diamond canvas windbreak with 7 poles - they are taller too I think. Or for less the 5 pole one we have which I found more than adequate and seemed very hardwearing (and looks great). Personally I'd be suspicious that anything from GLTC would be hardwearing enough for camping as in my experience things from there are lovely but not so robust.

Fully prepared to be proved / told I am wrong though!

i almost bought a blue diamond polycotton one but the reviews i found were not that great, so i decided not to risk it, but its good to know, so then i almost bought the deckchair cotton ones which were £55 or the soulpad ones at £57 so £35 did look a bargain. i have spent the last four days scouring the internet.

They both look great! There is a lot of choice but either of those would look fab with my belltent.

the kids have been using one to make a den today
they have metal on the full point so its easy to push them in the ground and they have a sewn in tie. cant wait to try them out with the bell tent. the stripes are on both sides as well (some windbreaks only have stripes on one side) so thats a big bonus. the pockets are also much bigger than i thought they were. the fabric pocket for the poles is actually over the top of the pole so you would have to bang the fabric if you need to use a mallet but i suppose it will never slip down

Thanks for the link to those photos. The windbreak looks really good quality. If you ever want an inner for your belltent I'd suggest the obelink Dutch site - much cheaper than UK. I bought a tarp from them recently. Enjoy camping!

i am slightly worried about how dangerous the metal ended ones are when carrying them around. the ends are so pointy i am imaging if i drop it on someones foot it would cause a major injury, also if a child ran into them, now i am going to have nightmares or i fell over (shiver). i am going to have to get a bag for the ends as i would like to use them at the beach as well which does involve walking a way across the dunes. i know its the same with most windbreaks and i am just a worrywort.

Don't worry! Just keep the points close to the ground when you are carrying it. :)
