Loony I'm sure there's some scientific research into the amount of food it will stop you throwing away and the cost of ehu it will save etc etc? Birthday pressie if not?

Sharing your excitement......my white Icey-Tek arrives on Tuesday. Very impressed with their customer services too. As the Icey-Tek I wanted wasn't in stock for my last camping trip they actually lent me one to use in the meantime. Couriered it up and everything! They were so incredibly helpful. Lovely, lovely company.

We have just got back from 2 weeks in Norfolk with our yellow Icey Tek, it did us proud. Last week it got quite hot outside but still worked brilliantly.

I just topped up with ice every couple of days, really easy to use and loads of space in it.

Doyouthinktheysaurus Did you just buy ice in bags from supermarkets and was the ice expensive?

kitbit · 06/08/2011 15:12

It's here!!!

So a bag of ice every other day will be ok? Going to a site for a week tomorrow with no elec, will that see us through?

As soon as it arrived I tore the box open and dispatched dh to buy some ice to prime it. He was slightly miffed as the rugby is on but grinned as he was leaving, I KNOW he is as excited as I am

Isn't she just, kitbit? A complete gem.

Congrats on the safe arrival of your Icey Tek! Grin

Can't wait for mine now. Looking forward to hearing how you get on and enjoy your trip!

Bags of ice cost £1 from any supermarket. We did it every 3 days the first week and every other day the 2nd week as it got hot.

The only other suggestion I have is to take lots of sealing food bags. Once the ice melts the cool box will stay cold but things get wet. We stuck everything in ziploc bags and kept a tea towel next to the icey tek.

As far as I know, freezer blocks work just as well but we were away for 2 weeks so ice was more convenient.

Mine has arrived too! I am now officially an Icey Tek owner as opposed to an Icey Tek borrower. Very happy.

I really want one but don't know if I can justify the cost.

What size did you both get? I was looking at the 25l one but not sure if it'll be big enough to hold what I was planning to take away. Space is very limited in my little car so I don't think I'd fit a bigger box in the car.

Have you filled your icey teaks yet?!

I originally borrowed the 40L from the lovely folk at Cool Boxes Uk but it didn't fit in our comparatively large boot (fairly embarrassing!) so when the new stock arrived I asked for the 25L which looks perfect. For longer trips I think I will just visit a supermarket and restock mid holiday should it be necessary although may consider a second 25L for more flexibility.

winefairy - can it fit bottles of wine in- we have big cooler but most of space is wasted so am tempted to get smaller but must be able to cope with bottles and a bit of food Grin

3rdnparty- No, the 25L can't fit a wine bottle in vertically. It's just a tad too short but they do fit in easily horizontally.

However, I'm ashamed to say that ever since my recent Camp Bestival trip I've been converted to taking a box of wine camping instead!

In my defence, wine in boxes has really improved since I last encountered it. Plus it's just so more compact. Three bottles in a tiny tardis style box.

Mel- Igloo sounds fab too especially if it enables a stripy windbreak. Which one are you going for?

well i was going to get the glam glamping one which is 2.75m by 1.5m but the i found one on lazy days for £65 but it says 4m by 1.2m www.lazydays.uk.net/ourshop/prod_949275-Deckchair-Stripes-Windbreak.html i tried to call them to confirm they are actually 4m as they do look the same as the 2.75m ones and to see how long delivery would take as its lacking info on the website. anyway a little girl answered and said i had the wrong number. so i obviously dont want to risk buying from them. i am actually tempted to buy two as i have just sold a whole load of joules and boden clothes i never wear on e-bay to cover more than the cost of two and the igloo. i thought why have all these lovely things sitting there i never have a chance to wear when i could get something way more useful. i am probably going to be invited to loads of weddings now Grin

winefairy · 09/08/2011 20:29

Interestingly, I found this one for only £55 which looks identical to the Glamping one. They even do the same sun shelter! It is listed as 2.7m....basically the same.

Report
winefairy · 09/08/2011 20:31

Could you not just wear a windbreak to any possible weddings? If you held your head high enough? Grin

Ooooh I am insanely jealous as I covet a yellow 40L iceytek! Think I have convinced dh after our Asda £6 one was totally and utterly crap. Do let me know how you get on with it!

Well, we primed and filled it on Saturday. The stuff at the bottom was still icy this morning. The butter is hard and fresh, the milk ice cold and when I stuck a warm bottle of fizz in this evening it came out properly chilled. I am so so impressed. It is a force of nature :o
