Hi all,

We are planning on going camping with our dc (7 and 5) in the last week of September, and looking for a tent. We don't want to buy anything to expensive, and have seen this: www.amazon.co.uk/Coleman-Ridgeline-Plus-Six-Tent/dp/B0030BG9O2/ref=sr_1_7?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1311879977&sr=1-7&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks :-)

hi there, We have just bought our first tent too. The one you are looking at looks ok but we decided against the 2 bedroom at either end of tent scenario. Basically as i thought dc's were far too young to sleep in a totally separate compartment and i would have been freaking out and not relaxing! We bought a Vango Icararus 600 from Decathlon for £149 - a greatly reduced price to their normal cost, its a 6 berth with a big living area and 2 bedrooms side by side which you can also convert to 1 big room. I think a big living area is important with dc as depending on the weather you might be using it alot. Im sorry i cant do links otherwise would show you, but you can also buy a large canopy which basically makes a whole extra room at the front (depending on your budget of course).. I will be hankering after the said canopy as at moment i am a poor church mouse and quite frankly just happy to have the tent at all Smile. We had alot of deliberations about it all but basically i went for cost, size, big living area and built in groundsheet. Im easily pleased!

You want one with a built in ground sheet... honestly in bad weather it makes a big difference.

First time we tried camping we had a very similar tent to the one you have linked. Fine when dry but when the rains come..damp underneath... damp grass has nice earthworms... not so nice when they are inside your tent!!

Decathlon and Go Outdoors both have some very good offers on at the mo..you really need to go where you can see several tents . Another thing..life is easier if you can stand upright.

I have this www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-mojave-5-p148800 as my second tent (I have a mahoosive Vango Amazon for my main tent) because we can put it up very quickly and it really first 5 nicely.

This is also very good for the price..and has the sewn in groundsheet [http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-zenobia-6-p148235]
