The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Aww notwaving. :) Ok, I'll keep drinking wine, lighting fires and stare at axes - might be close enough to being on an actual adventure!

Yay! :)

Packing today as we have the wedding tomorrow and then leave at stupid o'clock on Sunday for a 6 hour drive to Cornwall (according to the SatNav, anyway...).

My gast is flabbered at just how many tiny bits of dried grass a microtowel can collect and hold onto.... have spent a good half hour picking bits off the towels - I'm sure I don't remember swilling them around the floor last week!

Sal, you must stay staring at axes (why? Did I miss something?)

Report
lovecat · 22/07/2011 12:11

should have been a comma between stay and staring there...Blush

I don't mean you have to stay staring at axes - it might make everyday life a bit difficult!

MisSalLaneous · 22/07/2011 13:27

Ha, what a relief - was just trying imagine the popularity of take-your-axe-to-work-day. Mind you, some days it might make for considerably easier meetings...

No, with staying I meant will stay on thread and stalk you all - as I'm not actually going on proper adventures until September, thought hanging around might look slightly freaky. However, love it here so will stay and pretend I have a life. Axes or no axes.

PS: Still have no axe. There is a void in my life.

Not that I'm obsessed or anything. No really.

We're off next weekend for a 2 night jolly to Thornton le Dale. Nervous TBH. The site is my recommendation & we have 3 pitches. Hope everyone likes the place as much as we do. Can't decide what to do for first night tea. BBQ on the second night. Might be hotdogs & chilli or something...

Can anyone describe their camping "uniform" please? I always manage to feel slightly inappropriately dressed...

Hello all. off tomorrow- well at 4am to be precise, I count that as tonight!

Off to Brittany; whether 8 hours on a boat with my lot is wella dvised- we shall see.

Camping uniform- cropped trousers or knee length cotton skirt; sturdy clarks sandals; cotton shirt.

Pretty much same as everywhere else in summer!

Camping uniform relatively scruffy in the day, very scruffy by the time I'm cold in the evening. Comfort clothing, so comfy maxi and flip-flops / flat comfortable sandals if really warm, or linen drawstrings with sleeveless t-shirt etc. By the time we get to the evening, I'm normally covered in dust / mud, smelling like smoke and wearing a very fetching fleece! Come next morning, I stop caring and it's whatever's close and dry. Always, always comfortable shoes, and no make-up etc. Immaculately dressed campers, fully made up with styled hair etc, freak me out. They must feel the same about me...

Hey Peachy, have a fabulous trip!

Hmm, so what's the deal with kindle posting, notwaving? I haven't tried it yet as always use Iphone when abroad, but thought this might be cheaper option. Difficult to use or only set-up?

Just making myself a space on this thread

I missed a couple of days of the last thread and it careered off without me. But I'm looking forward to checking in here and reading about all your adventures throughout the summer. Our next trip will be a week at the end of August - probably Norden Farm if we can still get in.

Happy hols everyone Wine

this summer holidays i am going to try camping by the beach with my four monsters (6,5 and 2y old twins) on my own in the soulpad while DH is busy at work. i have several campsites lined up not far away for one or two nights at a time. i am sure it will be total madness but memory making (hopefully good memories and not of a mad mummy running around like a loon rounding up children). we are also going to the 'just so festival' (and i am making DH go to that).
i am sure my camping uniform will be totally scruffy, sandy and windswept but i might make a bit more effort at the festival as i am sure there will be some yummy mummies there. i might even pack a skirt Grin

I shall mention the campsite AFTER the trip as I looked at some reviews yestrerday, several hundred said fab three said shite and I am panicking LMAO; if I post and everyone goes eeeeeeek I will combust!

But Brittany, that much I will say Grin. Sailing to Caen at 8.15.

my camping uniform by night is every layer I can possibly add! I do wear make up but that is becuase I have the worst type of hair for camping; thick, a wave and gravity defying: my hair and no make up and I would be put in a zoo

Am back on iPhone think I found it difficult because it wasnt obvious and I need it spelling out Grin

However it is actually quite fab - I was struggling to manipulate the Big thread.

One of the reasons I bought it was to access wifi when in Forrin so hopefully it will do the job!

Have a lovely trip Peachy and everyone else off on their travels.

Hope Losty can find us !

Hi Slubber off to another weirdy unique campsite tonight ? Grin

I want a cat on a lead. Or an axe. Wonder if either are available in the Kindle Store ?

Every time we go toPembrokeshire the owner has to help him with the axe, he is NOT axe skilled! We now wait until nobody else is about and scavenge instead, all the off cuts that the alpha males have left behind. Works a treat.

Off in 6 hours; can't sleep. Buggrit. Luckily have scheduled stop in Macys for coffee en route.

Have a fab week people.
