I spotted an esoteric tent today! What on earth was it?

was driving past UK&siteTypes=1, 2, 3, 5 this campsite just now, and stopped to buy eggs - my pretext for stalking the tent I'd spotted from the road. My first thoughts flew to Slubber, because this was no ordinary tent: it was a canvas beauty with many many pegging points and a decidedly Continental silhouette. It could have been a pyramide...? It was natural canvas-coloured, and I could only see it from the backside, which was very sexily curvy (you could almost call it apsidal). The front of it reared up majestically and I'm pretty sure the entrance had two poles, whereas there was just the one pole in the main body of the tent. Most intriguingly, it seemed to have a side porch or awning or something, but that was on the far side so I couldn't see properly. It was extremely well pitched - even I can tell that!

I was rubber-necking from the far side of a small field, and felt far too shy about going up and having a closer look, but I could see a label at the back of the tent. Can I have sighted a De Waard??

grin (Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to geeky tent-spotting.)

I LOVE your description A LOT. It almost certainly was a pyramid with the central pole and two poles at the entrance (you had me at sexily curvy).

Whether it was a de waard or not I cannot say, many many pegging points is a clue, although most pyramides have a shed load of guys.

How lovely. You should have gone and asked, you may have found a family of Elves the Dutch in there looking continental and beauteous.

ooohh it Does sound like an Albatross with some of those side walls on maybe??

Slubberdegullion Thu 07-Jul-11 20:21:23

Both my Cabanon Guadeloupe and the bigger Barbados both come with additional side panels.

NettleTea Thu 07-Jul-11 21:15:31

ooohh. Theres a cabonan pyramid on ebay at the moment - only £150. Most people will let you send a courier to pick up if you ask nicely.

That'll be the first and last use of 'apsidal' in a thread, I'll warrant.

Take 20 MN points.

It absolutely can have been an Albatross, having googled. Do they have optional side extensions then?

Slubber, I looked at the rear end of your tent on your profile and on google, and I'm pretty sure this Esoteric Tent was even curvier. Taut, flawless canvas, it was.

I'm wondering if I can manufacture an excuse to drive past again tomorrow at teatime and catch the Elves Dutch tent folk. There're only so many eggs I can use. And I reaped the benefits of detouring and stopping off on the way home today - DS1 (3) went to sleep in the car and was consequently a complete bugger to get to sleep this evening. Still, DH's job at the moment, not mine.

Nope. It was closer to the ground, not Bell-y or like that example.

Reshape, you're gonna have to go and get more eggs. Have a quiche based weekend.

You know this is what it feels like to be mad about tanks. There really should be a tent spotter book with De Waards and Karstens at the back for mega points.

What do we all get it is IS a De Waard?
Can I cover my bases and put an ESVO possibility in there too.

Nettle that is the Cabanon Pyramide 6. No sig see.

oricella Fri 08-Jul-11 08:45:32

It's in Dutch, but here you can find details on any De Waard ever produced!

ReshapeWhileDamp Fri 08-Jul-11 11:40:51

... I'm going to have to stop off today and take my camera, aren't I?

I could get arrested for this kind of thing.

Seriously, do people mind if strangers walk into a camping field and have a nosey? It's a tiny site - there were only three tents pitched yesterday and no caravans.

Quiche is fine, but no bugger eats it in this house except for me. I can feel a Victoria Sandwich coming on...

ReshapeWhileDamp Fri 08-Jul-11 12:31:08

Good god, Oricella. shock They make a lot of tents, don't they?

I like trying to read Dutch. If you squint, it almost turns into English. My absolute favourite phrase on a Dutch tent website is "Klik hier voor die prijslijst." It's very intelligible!

Slubberdegullion Fri 08-Jul-11 14:10:35

You are going to have to go and pap the mystery sexpot curvy tent, yes. Strangers on the Internet need to know.

I sat through a Dutch pantomime once and funny now you say it I did find that squinting helped me to understand what the bell was going on.

Slubberdegullion Fri 08-Jul-11 14:11:44

Damn you autocorrect.

Sexily was changed into sexpot without my knowledge.

I don't think you can have a sexpot tent really.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion Fri 08-Jul-11 14:13:22

Have a look at the tent porn thread-was it an Albion canvas tent thingy?

MisSalLaneous Fri 08-Jul-11 19:18:10

Weelllll, tent porn thread... sexpot sounds fitting! Am dying to hear what this tent is, Reshape.

ReshapeWhileDamp Fri 08-Jul-11 19:22:49

... it had gone. sad The bird has flown. The Dutch Tent Folk must have struck and departed this morning. So we'll never know. I do have one craptastic shot, taken yesterday on my phone, but I can't find the lead to get the picture off phone and onto computer. hmm

However, I like the idea of a sexpot tent. grin The more I perve look at De Waard tenten, the more I'm sure it was one of theirs, though I'm sure other quality tent manufacturers are available.

ReshapeWhileDamp Fri 08-Jul-11 19:25:01

Slubber, was 'what the Bell was going on' an innocent typo, or have you now incorporated sniping at Bellend tents into your sweary repertoire? wink Very effcient.

(we are ordering a Soulpad this evening. I am chuffed beyond words.)
