so I am fed up with the rest of MN (this whole mamazon shite really is the ,last straw), so I am assuming that if any of you are trolling you are showing extraordinary persistence by delving into the thrills of iceytec and are worth chatting to.

So anyway, hi, I am SeaShells, I have 2 dc and have been camping and trapsing through the Great Outdoors all my life. I hang out here as my love of camping is more a love of the countryside and life, and you lot have a similar outlook.

Hello missus. I know you well on this bit.

I too have tired of the nonsense on the rest of the site, I only like coming here and talking to you lot. There's something nice and safe about this topic and a lot of nice like-minded people.

I've only been into this camping lark for twelve months after a childhood of guide camping and family camping.

I have now turned into a Competitive Camper (competing only with myself to see how much better I can "do" each camp).

I would get a life, but I quite like this one. Grin

Hello! I always look at you name and mentally adjust it to "not ironing, just waving" which is more my household ATM Blush

Well it is a name to hide behind. I don't ACTUALLY do very much ironing, or indeed waving, to be honest.

Have you always had Seashelly connotations?

I'm wondering where SethStarkAddersMum has gone - presumably she's changed names, I've not seen her around for ages.

I haven't even spotted whatever is going on elsewhere on the site, but I tend to avoid certain boards. I am a bit too minimalist for the camping boards, I think, cos I don't yearn for an icytec or anything else really, but I do like camping a lot.

notwavingjustironing, you could have a special camping version, notwavingjustwhittling, perhaps.

Hi, I'm Quenelle.

Is it Wineo'clock already? Lovely Smile

I haven't been around long enough to say MN isn't what it used to be etc but everyone in Camping seems very pleasant so it would be nice to sit around the fire and chat awhile.

After a childhood of family camping and a few adults only hiking/camping/drinking weekends in our 20s and 30s, we are taking our 2yo boy away for one night in our new tent this weekend.

notwaving - or notwavingjustfanningthefire...?

Oooh a fire, lovely.

I love the camping section, have not been around as much this year as having been trying to wean myself off the computer, but this is really the last place to be on here. Used to post in the Doghouse quite alot, but even that makes me wince now.

I love actual camping very muchly.

notwaving, what about 'notwavingjustbanginginamassivetentpeg'

Actually no, that sounds rude, was trying to think of something that involved the neccessary hand motion.

Nice fire, warm not too smokey, very relaxing.

I vote for notwaivingjustfanningthefire (if I get a vote!) I need a new name too as very soon I shall not be lost in Wales but probably really lost camping my way through France and the Alps to Italy. I'm so excited!

I was camping at the weekend with some lovely chums and sitting round the fire at 10pm, looking at the sea, I decided that no matter how much money I had (none at the moment but you never know) there could be nothing better on this earth to be doing. We were supposed to be going this weekend but DS3 has come down with skanky hand, foot and mouth disease, home for the weekend instead, bum.

I'm really enjoying the friendly banter in Camping as, like so many others, I'm rediscovering childhood pleasures now i have two DSs who love the outdoors.

Found this forum when first debating whether or not to buy a bell tent and the info and advice helped me a lot. No prizes for guessing that i succumbed to the delights of real canvas.

Was very surprised at some of the other forums - guess some people just dont get enough fresh air!

Hello! Wine

After yesterday I was seriously considering leaving MN. It's only the camping and feminism threads that keep me here, tbh.

I used to love camping with the brownies/guides as a child and have rediscovered it in my 40's - and I love it so much! (having a soulpad helps immeasurably, tho').

Currently trying to work out if we can go camping in the October half term and not freeze to death.... what do you think? I've landed myself with directing a play that's on the end of September, so that's put paid to any additional weekends til then as Friday is a rehearsal night (I'm away 3 times in between, so I can't really complain, but I was really looking forward to a few September weekends!)

Moonchairs are the business aren't they?

I'm torn between taking my moonchair or DH - it literally is a choice between the two and he's not that bothered about camping, so hey ho!

October camping seems hardcore to me. I'm in two minds about the first weekend in September before the children go back to school!

lostinwales · 30/06/2011 17:13

Septembers been lovely the last couple of years but I'm not sure about October, how many meters of fleece can you get?

What's a moonchair? (although if it takes up a lot of space I'm not sure I want to know, I already have to fit DH, DS x 3, tent x 2, in the car never mind sleeping bags etc, I'm very close to getting a trailer.)

Report
Lovecat · 30/06/2011 17:31

lostinwales, this is a moonchair. A thing of great bulk but great comfort...:)

I know, re. October, I'm thinking of investing in one of those sleeping bags with arms and legs and living in that if we do... but if I thought we were going to have an Indian summer I would so go for it... we went away last year on the last weekend of September and it was beautifully hot and sunny - I'm so tempted!

If I were brave like MisSal I'd go for an in-tent stove, but DD has dyspraxic traits (not quite enough for a confirmed DX, but enough to make her trip up over herself/blunder into things) and I'd be worried the whole time having something that hot inside the tent where she could fall on it.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 30/06/2011 17:48

October was really hot down here last year-I have pictures of ds1 in only a nappy in the garden! The nights were cold though. It is tempting though.

Re the rest of MN, it's always been full of lunatics, but they seem to be seriously loopy and shouty ATM. Still loads of lovely people around, they are just keeping their heads down and tend not to be in chat or aibu anymore.

What play are you directing Lovecat?

I've been on the beach this pm and the sea is gorgeous :)

Not waving-I've been Seashelly for about 18mths now, and a number of other names before then, I got bored quite quickly of them Grin

How lovely, the camping threads are the only ones I bother with really, so am blissfully unaware of current upsets.

I am supping a nice cold Rose in my new inflatable camping sofa, warming my toes on the fire.

Cheers campers!

I'm doing What The Butler Saw by Joe Orton. Loads of fun :o.

Well, I say that, the way things are going atm I may not be - I've had 2 of my cast drop out today - one because she's got a new job and has to work nights, and the other because he's a secondary school teacher and his line manager told him (in a very catsbummouth manner) that if his pupils found out what he was doing (playing the policeman who ends up drugged and bleeding in a leopardskin dress) he'd lose his job... so he has felt he's got no choice but to pull out

So am going to have to re-audition as we were a bit short on men in the initial auditions and we don't have a substitute. Arse.

Am v. Envy of you being on the beach thisaffo - whereabouts do you live? I grew up by the sea and miss it so much, living in London.

The weather is amazing at the moment isn't it, gutted we won't be camping this weekend. I've been meeting up with friends and swimming in the sea most evenings this week, bliss.

I agree with the amount of lunatics around on the main boards, I've only ever ventured into AIBU once and I left pretty quickly! There's just a certain quality to people who camp, a definite something about people who enjoy being outdoors and aren't too princessy hides the fact that until 3 years ago when confronted with a tent she would comment 'where's the ensuite then'

Moonchairs look utterly fantastic. I wonder if there's space in our holiday budget for one and a trailer to transport it through Europe with me?

YellowDinosaur · 30/06/2011 18:13

Hello ladies can I join in? Don't have a moonchair but do have one of those fold up ones with space for a glass in the arm rest. Best have my wine in a mug then after discovering last year that wine glasses fall out of those slots very easily!!!

I probably at the momenth do more surfing for new non essential camping stuff than actually camping. I ahve always loved camping though, going lots as a child, but dh is less keen and our disastrous camping night away with the boys (then 2 and 4) last Sept where between them they woke 4 times didn't help to persuade him!

I have managed to persuade him though and we are off this summer - he thinks for about 3 nights but I have plans to work on that! I also want to get a pop up tent so that I can take the boys away on my own at weekends.

Dorset, but only for18mths and now never ever ever ever gonna leave!!

Shock re teacher! What does his line manager think his pupils watch normally, that play would be nothing really in comparism and a healthy dose of"culture" to boot if they ever got curious and googled it

We can't camp as everyone is visiting us for a cheap summer holiday so we haven't got time or money for one ourselves this summer.
