Anyone use a portable air conditioner in their carvan abroad?

Didn't know where to ask this..'Products' maybe? I thought perhaps it might be more of a camping type of question. Aaanyway..

Last year we went to France to a site and stayed in a static caravan/mobile home thingy.

It was lovely but not a/c and very hot esp at night. Knowing it'd be hot we took a couple of fans which helped a bit, but I was wondering if there is such a thing as a portable air conditioner? Dh thinks I'm crazy and says if there was it'd be too big/heavy/expensive etc etc. This might be true, but I thought I'd ask.

We are going again this year - similar accommodation and I think we'll return for some years to come in a similar vein, so I would consider outlaying a bit now (if feasible) as we'd use it again I'm sure.

I've also read about 'evaporative coolers'. Are they any good?
