Caravan site recommendations - within 2 hours or less of Manchester.

Hey up

Can anyone recommend a caravan site, within 2 hours of Manchester. I need water and electric hook up to the pitch. Must be good for children and allow dogs. Not too busy and with a handful of good stuff close by to go and see and do.

Oh and caravan is double axle monster, so good access is essential.

Ta.

Yes, that area would be good - it was a site recommendation I was after though Pete/ I've got loads of books and caravan links etc BUT I know from experience, the best sites are the ones others recommend!

Shrewsbury Oxon Hall. Has all facilities on site, unless you don't like polished sites?? Adjacent to a co-op and park and ride into the town. Close to Ironbridge, etc. I went a couple of years ago, would go again.

Or how about the Caravan Club sites at Thurstaston, Wirral, or their one near Chester?

I only know about them, as my family live nearby. My sister also thoroughly recommends their one in North Wales at Chirk.

I've not been for a few years, but Greenhills near Bakewell is good. We went about 2 or 3 times before we moved to Manchester. It's only about an hour away for us so we feel a bit daft going camping there now.

Delamere Forest camping and caravanning club site is lovely. Go Ape close by, also Chester Zoo and Beeston Castle.

Burrs country park at bury would fit the bill

The camping and caravan site at Cannock chase is nice. Good play park for little kids, you're a minute walk from the chase for biking and walking. Two miles down the road is a train station which will have you in Birmingham in about 30mins for stuff like the science museum and the back to backs.

Close enough kind of for Chester zoo. Well it was for us but I suppose been from Manchester Chester is closer for you from home. But there's other stuff to do fairly close. Tamworth snow dome, cadbury a world, sea life, iron bridge, Black Country museum.

I never thought I'd recommend a haven site, but the lakeland one in Grange over sands is great. Close for the lakes and grizedale forest etc, with loads onsite for children to do. Caravan pitches were a good size, with a good shower block as well.

It's too close for us, but people love it eher. Very close to Delemere forest.

Fishpool Farm caravan park. 5 mins from Delamere forest, gorgeous showers and toilets, small play area for little ones, within walking distance of 2 good pubs for eating out, a short drive to Chester, cheap as chips, pitches in the middle of the site are spacious and very flat, a travelling stonebake pizza oven visits the site at weekends and so does a fish n chip van.

Chatsworth (CC site) in Derbyshire or Low Park Wood (also CC) near Kendal are both lovely.

Would second chatsworth as a destination.. Loved it!
The Lakes has plenty of sites to offer; Park cliffe at Windermere is nice, the quiet site at Ullswater is very family friendly, wood close at Kirkby Lonsdale is handy.
