Sorry in advance if I’ve posted in the wrong section. I would really appreciate any meal tips or ideas any one could share with me please...

After a very scary stay in hospital (I was severely constipated and didn’t have any bowel movements for 3 weeks) Now that I’m better and back to normal I want to change my diet drastically. Although the hospital and my GP haven’t said it’s my diet that caused the problems I suspect it could be a factor. I’ve suffered with constipation before during the last few years so this isn’t unusual for me. I’m currently having blood tests to see if I have a thyroid problem. I haven’t weighed myself in a while but I’m probably around 14 stone so could definitely stand to lose some weight as well.

I’m 23, live on my own and work full time so tend to eat a lot of “convenient” meals e.g shoving a pizza in the oven, microwave meals, fried foods. I’ve also been eating a lot of egg mayo on sandwiches for work which I suspect was another factor with the constipation. I realise I can still eat this but perhaps not as much?? I don’t drink any fizzy drinks except the odd can of coke with a takeaway once a month so I guess I’m okay on that end?!

I’m not the best cook but willing to learn, the GP have said to just eat more fruit, veg and fibre which is easy enough. I’m just not the best at putting together meals so if anyone could help me I’d really appreciate it. TIA

Drink lots of water and eat lots of fibre.
I have porridge (20g) with chia seeds(10g) for breakfast and a cup of herbal tea and that seems to keep everything moving however bad the rest of the days eating goes.
Spinach is good and full of fibre, so are raspberries. I try to apply the "make every mouthful count" philosophy to eating which helps me avoid the empty calories of the likes of frozen pizza (spread tomato paste on a wrap with grated cheese, baby spinach leaves or rocket and a drizzle of pesto and grill for a healthy quick pizza instead).

Breakfast. Try eggs..scrambled eggs High in protein and not high in caps.

Lunch Chicken with salad or jacket potato with filling

Dinner Try batch cooking. Make much larger portions of food and freeze in portions for another day.

I batch cook and freeze.

Fish pie with mash top (serve with cabbage and carrots)
Spag bol sauce (add to pasta)
Satay sauce (add chicken and eat over rice)
Spicy Minced Lamb (Serve in pitta bread with salad)

If you want to lose weight too. Try My Fitness Pal a free meal logger website. See how much food you are eating and where healthier choices can be made.

Sorry to hear you haven’t been well OP. I’ve found my good foods for a healthy diet and avoiding constipation are:
Weetabix or porridge for breakfast.
Whole meal bread sandwich and vegetable based soup for lunch.
Dinners I keep simple when cooking for one. Baked potatoes with a nice filling (prawns of tuna mayo) with salad.
Other high fibre foods that are nice and also easy are vegetable chilli, lentil soup, cauliflower and potato curry. I only snack on fruit when watching my weight. Berries are full of fibre and if you can take them, dried apricots. I think the most important thing to avoid constipation though is exercise. A brisk walk a couple of times a day definitely gets things moving along!

Weetabix, porridge or toast for breakfast is what I normally have.

Jacket potato with some sort of filling e.g tuna and sweetcorn, salad or a light sandwich for lunch

Good luck

Avoid mayo, chips, sugar
Meals idea.. •healthy smoothie mixed with fruit.
• boiled egga with salad
• tuna sandwiches
Flowers good luck I'm also willing to lose weight. But when I start some kind of parties or trips pops in and ruin everthing. I tried Samsung Shealth app last September and I lost 4lbs. I lost stone while fasting. Buy now I gain I'm gaining it. The more fast u loose the more u gain again so better make a slow loosing weigh plan.
