Has anyone actually gotten rid of the 'mum tum'

I need to be honest. This thing is an apron. A really horrible one. I'm so greatful it's given me two beautiful dcs, but I'm 22 and although my stomach was never brilliant to begin with, I'm now stuck with an apron. I'm 6 weeks post partum today so I'm not expecting to look wonderful. But I've just looked at it in the mirror and I could've cried.
Has anyone gotten rid of it? How? I have RA so I'm on a really good diet now hoping it'll help me out anyway but I can't see how I'll shift this :( what exercises did you do? I can't afford a gym membership yet but I'm currently on 1,500 calories a day and trying to work out as much as I can and also running about after two small babies and doing housework.. Which classes as exercise too.. Right? 😂

Watching. I measured myself tonight, I'm 5"3 bust 31, waist 26, hips 31. Ffs, those are odd measurements. I've always had skinny hips and not much waist, but with an added mummy tummy. I need to get rid of wobbles too.

I think, op you have to look up stomach separation exercises. Well, I do too. I did but felt wobbly.

But, you're 6 weeks pp. Your tummy is still moving back. You will get there. Maybe concentrate on your babies until say christmas and reassess then.

I'm 23 and 4 months after birth and my stomach is horrific. I did get really bad stretch marks and put on loads of weight which didn't help but it will get better slowly.
If your only 6 weeks on I wouldn't start with anything too intense. Try some walks with the kids and look into any new mum exercise classes that are around. They can be cheapish

Don't be too hard on yourself :)

I'm six weeks postpartum too. My abs have separated and I need to bring them back together. Don't do any planks or sit ups etc as if you have separated abs (diastasis rectus) those exercises will make it worse. Focus on pilates and lots of pelvic floor exercises. You need to rebuild your core strength before you do anything else so alongside that clean up your diet. Also be kind to yourself - this is my second and the wobbly fatty tummy didn't completely go for a good 6 months last time (had diastasis then too tho!) give yourself time, your body will look completely different by Christmas!

You're only six weeks in, I remember feeling the same. I was a size 8/10 at 5'9ish so no other fat really, a year on my tummy is fine and firm again! You basically have to wait it out, I think mine went back to normal at about 3 months Smile

No advice but I've got a mumtum and RA too 2under1.

6 weeks pp is early, give yourself time.
I'm trying to diet and exercise more in the hope that will help.

Yes, you can.

Give it time.

I am 50, 5 children, washboard tummy . Sit ups.

Sit ups

More sit ups and situps with weights.

But not yet, enjoy your baby. It will come.

Thank you all :) it's my figure too I think. Its amazing how your body changes after a baby. I used to be hourglass and now I'm pear :( it doesn't look right as my torso is longer than my legs. I hate it. Thank you x

I've had 5 c-sections and got a terrible apron too.
Definitely planning on a tummy tuck.

You can't exercise it away if it's loose skin (apron). Only surgery will fix it.

There's a myth on MN that you can exercise it away - in sone cases you may - but if it's skin and the muscle is gone then you need a surgeon's knife, not sit ups and diet!

12 years on after twins and I am proof of that. I lost lots of weight, exercised and got nicely slim but the baggy stomach remained - of course it did - it is excess skin without muscle to support it! When I went for a tt consultation this was all confirmed (didnt go through with it)

Without seeing your stomach it is hard for any of us to tell. It could be a bit wobbly, but genuine section overhang that's disproportionate to the rest of your body will not be cured by sit ups!

Give it time and try, but don't be hard on yourself, you have a lovely new baby. Smile

Sit ups really work? Wow.

Swimming is the best all over exercise for losing lb and all over muscle tone - I've been having weekly and twice weekly PT seasons for 8 months and ta not worked very well, but sing, little and often is really benefitting me
I'm 6 years post second baby ... ug!! Confused but making the effort now to get rid!

If you have separated tummy muscles do not do sit ups - this will make it much worse.
When you are ready to exercise then Pilates and core strengthening will help close the gap and help with your mum tum!
Im going to start a programme soon as my muscles are badly separated after baby no 3. (I say baby - he's about to turn 1!)

Sits up do work... I have rock hard abs... under a nice layer of fat that makes me look about 4 months pregnant Grin

But this is not the OP's case. Sit ups won't help, like a pp says if it's excess skin and your muscles are damaged you will need surgery.

It’s SIX weeks !

I have got rid and

It’s very early days so please be kind

And start some gentle post natal core exercises . Get a video off you tube and do a very easy post natal routine

Do daily
I mean daily , and build up when you are all healed

Then slowly focus on diet

I would not say sit ups in their own work

But a decent core routine is a life saver

My bladder is better (used to piss
Myself all the time )

I have completely got rid of back pain

My stomach is better . It’s not rock hard abs but my god it’s better

OP you might want to see a
Physio , even two sessions to teach you is an investment
