Liver shrinking diet for 4 weeks help!

I’m on the liver shrinking diet for at least the next four weeks before surgery, but because I don’t eat dairy, I can manage about 400 calories a day.
I can’t see my doctor for 2 weeks to discuss, and i’m Worried about the effects on my health during this time as it’s already not great.

My TDEE is roughly 1900 a day and i’m 5 stone overweight with chronic pain which precludes exercise until after the operation to fix the pain.

I don’t want to cheat on the diet by eating more protein or carbs as i’d hate the operation to be cancelled if my liver isn’t shrunk enough, can anyone advise?

Didn't they give you any diet advice at the hospital?

400 calories per day is incredibly low, and I would think that's unsustainable over 4 weeks!

How are you supposed to exist on 400 calories a day for 4 weeks?
Did the hospital not provide a plan?
I would have thought 1000 cals would be the norm?

If you can't have dairy, can you have protein and fruit?

Are you supposed to be having protein shakes? There are vegan alternatives widely available. If it's something more complicated than that you really need to seek advice from the people who have put you on the diet.

Is this before Bariatric Surgery? Which plan have they suggested you follow, food , shakes or something else?

Have you been given any information at all?

Is there a specialist nurse you could speak to? Or the pre-op assessment/surgical waiting list department?

There are other options out there than the milk one. I had one that was measured protein no fat no root vegetables. I ate a load of chicken and salad leaves! Ask if you can try a different one and explain the dairy issue.

Phone the bariatric team if it is that surgery or the hospital. They are pretty good about dealing with problems. It is worth sticking too because the surgery and recovery will be better.

It’s for a gallbladder operation. They normally put people on a pint of skimmed milk 4 times a day diet but because i’m Lactose intolerant, I was told to google a liver shrinking food diet and stick to it.

The doctor is on a course for the next few weeks and his team have been useless so far. I’m hoping to see my GP for another issue this week and will get their advise, but as I was on clear fluids only for a few weeks before starting this diet, i’m Already starting to feel weak.

Thanks for all of your advice.

I had to do that but with yoghurt and milk. Can you have dairy free yoghurt? For a savoury taste I drank bovril.

Not the same surgery, but this suggests unsweetened soya milk as an alternative?

Sorry your team have been so useless flowers

I had to do this for a week before having my gallbladder removed last year.
All I could eat was unlimited sugar free jelly and low fat yogurt. And drink water, with a couple of cups of tea/coffee a day.
It was grim for the first 48 hours but I kind of got used to it after that. Wouldn’t fancy doing it for 4 weeks though.

The worst thing was craving savoury, salty food. I tried drinking bovril which was allowed but it was awful.
I so enjoyed chewing food again after the op.

Not surprised you are feeling weak. Hope you get some help from your GP and good luck with the surgery.
