Calorie-counting

Question from a newbie

I'm just getting started on calorie counting and I'm wondering what this coming weekend we're away with friends and I'm trying to decide how to handle the meals. Shall I not bother counting or try to estimate the calories in things? What do you do?

Sorry, my message isn't clear. I was on my phone without my glasses on. I meant we're are staying at a friends house this weekend and they will be cooking for us - would it be best to roughly estimate the calories or not bother counting, or what ....it's not worth telling them I'm counting calories as I'll get all the you're not fat comments - yes I am fat!

I try to keep track of calories at all times (I use an app) but if you're not sure just have smaller portions than normal and no snacks. Or have a blowout and start again on Monday!
