I would like to lose about 2 lbs per week. Is this too much? I am only 5'3 and have a stone to lose by summer. Would lower calorie be better or will i still lose on this number? CakeCake

How much do you weigh?, you won't lose 2lb a week on 1600 cal unless you have a lot to lose. Have you tried adding your data to a calculator that will tell you a calorie range? I'll find you a link...

It depends what you burn to be honest. I burn 2400 a day so would lose on that but if you're burning 1400 you'll gain. To lose a pound a week you need to eat around 500 calories less than you burn Smile

I wouldn't lose on 1600. I am 5'7.5.

It depends on a lot of factors, mostly how much exercise you're going to be doing and what your BMR is. For example, my BMR is 1300 (the calories I burn just lying in bed sedentary all day) and I have a very sedentary office job, but I run every morning and do cardio or weights at night, which burns anywhere from 500-1000 calories per day. So if I wanted to lose 2lbs a week I'd need a deficit of 1000 a day, if I was burning max 2300 (BMR + exercise) I'd need to eat 1300 a day. Basically, you need to find a way to burn/not eat 1000 calories a day, so if you ate 1600 you'd need to burn 2600 in total a day. You're probably better off eating slightly less or aiming for 1lb a week, which is more easily achievable and you'll be happier with your results. Smile

I just put my stats into that and it said to 'lose weight fast' I need 1380.

My metabolism must be all wrong as I would need to eat 1000 or less to lose, and I do shit loads of exercise Sad

gaggia that calculator seems bang on. I'm losing about 1-2 lb a week on 1800 and its recommended 1777 to me, really useful.

English its an accurate one for Me too.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/04/2017 19:48

I like that one it gives me 1900 calories Grin

Yellowcups · 26/04/2017 19:51

If you only have a stone to lose to reach the right weight fir your height then yes 1600 is too much. You could try this for a week and you might lose 2/3 lbs but it won't last. Maybe try 1300 to begin with.

adviceneed · 26/04/2017 20:37

thank you & for the link it recommended 1500 to lose weight, so i think i will try this or maybe 1400. Smile

ps do you guys find it matters where you get your calories from when losing weight or is it all the same whether you eat junk or healthy (as long as its in calorie goal) ?

The main thing is calories in vs calories out for weight loss but for health obviously the nutrients matter. If you're on FB check out Richie Howie. I've lost nearly 2 stone in his team rh group it's fabulous. There are people in the group ranging from morbidly obese to super fit but wanting better nutrition and to make the most of their workouts, it's a brilliant supportive group and the results are amazing. It isn't a diet, it helps you to work out the nutrition your body needs individually.

Stick to calories & no treats!!

I've lost 2.5st in 4 weeks on 1000 calories a day & no exercise

BuzzKillington · 26/04/2017 20:58

2.5st in 4 weeks?

That's amazing!

lifesjoys · 26/04/2017 20:58

Obviously given the fact that's an average of 9lbs a week, the weight loss is slowing down to a couple of lbs a week now

lifesjoys · 26/04/2017 21:00

On 27th March I was 17st 1lbs & today I am 14st 9lbs

gaggiagirl · 26/04/2017 21:09

That's amazing life!!! Congratulations 🎊

adviceneed · 26/04/2017 21:26

That calculator is right for me - I know I maintain on around 1600 cals and it gave me 1594. I'm 52, desk job 3 days a week, exercise 4 times a week and walk a fair bit (I said moderately active). And only about 5'1.
