I've got a stone to loose, never been on a diet, generally eat quite well (although maternity leave isn't doing my food cupboard any favours) but two babies in 17months and I need something to get things started.

Are they any good? Only considering these as they seem to be similar concept to slimfast but cheaper and I think the strictness is what I need at the mo.

How long should I look at doing it for? Obviously it's not a longterm plan but I wondered if there was anyone with any past experience of meal replacements Smile

I have a friend who has been using these for months. She says they're really nice, although some better than others, as with most things.

I think for a month or so, to get you out of a snacking rut, something like this can work, but to be fair, my friend has been doing it for about 6 months and she looks no different to me!

I thought about doing a similar thing but making my own milkshake or smoothie and having a vitamin tablet, it's pretty much the same thing if you check the ingredients. Anything that changes your bad habits is worth a try and I can't imagine it's any different to slim fast so if it cheaper, give it a go.

I saw a thing on TV (obvs a reliable source) that said if you drink your calories you get hungry faster. Tried switching to water/fruit tea and have managed to sustain weight loss much better than before.

For what it's worth, I think meal replacements just set you up to get bored. They also encourage you to celebrate/treat yourself with food, which doesn't help to make sensible choices.

Just to clarify, I did not try to survive on water and fruit tea! I used mfp and ate all calories, but didn't eat calories earned through exercise.

I started tesco ultraslim at the beginning of September (I'd lost a littl before that by cutting down on crap) im now over 2 1/2 stone lighter, have been doing couch 2 5k as well.
It's not been easy I won't lie, and I have tended to have too few calories some days, I average at about 900calories a day at the moment, but I have a lot more to lose as I'm still obese.
I do treat myself to the occasional takeaway or meal out too. And I have one day a week off the diet.
It's going better than I thought, I don't really tend to get very hungry anymore and I'm satisfied after far less food.
I've gone from having all different flavours to just sticking to sweet caramel and vanilla ones.
I do tend to skip the lunchtime shake because I forget it but I'm trying to replace it with homemade soup or salad.

I wouldn't suggest dropping your calories quite as low as I have, I look and feel great but my period has dissapeared so I'm going to have to see the Dr next week since its more than two months late. three tests I'm not pregnant
