Bullying

Son beat up bullies?

Hiya! New around here...
I'll get straight to the point: I am a single dad, with a 14 year old DS. His mother died a couple of months after he was born, so it has always been us together. We're really close, but lately he has (expectedly) started to distance himself from me.
Anyway, yesterday he told me about a bullying incident. I was surprised, because DS (though very strong) isn't violent at all. Apparently he was walking in an empty hall way, and he was cornered by the local idiots (big kids, about 5'6) and shoved into a corner.
After they started hitting and kicking and using foul language I don't care to repeat here, he started to fight back. Apparently he left them bruised and battered in the corridor. It was somewhat chilling how calm he was while telling me about this, and I am at a loss about what to do next. He doesn't seem to understand he did something wrong! Advice?

Why isn't that self-defence?

I am concerned that the other children will report it to the school, and they will have marks to "prove" that he "bullied" them. In that case, it'll be their word against his.

It doesn't sound to me like he did anything wrong. He defended himself against bullies.

Is there any CCTV in the corridor? That would establish that your DS was not the aggressor if the bullies then try to claim he attacked them.

Your DS hasn't done anything wrong, if he was attacked he is entitled to defend himself. If he had to hurt them so badly before they would stop trying to hurt him, he should be safe from them in the future too- they aren't going to want it to happen again.

Maybe best if you get in touch with school to explain the situation. Hopefully all the adults can agree that nobody wants a repeat.

You clearly doing something right! I'm lucky if my 3 year old tells me what he had for lunch!

But maybe contact school and see their stance on bullying, just because you're son could fight them off doesn't mean others can. Stress the fact that he was attacked while alone.

I wouldn't imagine the school will think 1 smaller child bullied 3 bigger children? Confused

I think let the school know what ahppened, they might already be aware of these kids.
