a bit of a panic - which breastpump

hi

our DD arrived four weeks early and still in hospital. Shes having some problem with feeding so we need a breastpump to use at home once we are discharged.

At the moment i am using hospital grade ameda pump which is working well. However it costs £1500 so buying is out of question. We looked at hiring but it costs £45 for a month and we plan to breastfeed for 6-7 months. so it will cost us a lot of money.

can someone recommend any electric breastpumps? i looked at Medela Swing or Ameda Lactaline, both around £100 mark. can someone advise on one or the other or a third option.

Hi, congratulations on your DD, hope she is home soon.

I use a spectra3 pump which I bought on amazon for £60. It's not as fancy looking as all the other pumps but I've found it's been great. Would really recommend.

Congratulations! I'm expressing for my 4-week early DD. I've used the Ameda lactaline for 2 prems now.

Advantages: double-pump facility

Disadvantage: not very portable.

Perhaps have a think about buying one 2nd hand on Ebay - there's always a few on there - check out the completed listings to see how much they sell for?

Good luck. I hope your wee one is home with you soon.

I used the Medela Swing to exclusively express for about 8 weeks until my DS's tongue tie was diagnosed & treated. It was great. I never fancied double pumping!

I have an ameda lactiline, I'm not great at expressing but this works well. It's the only one on the market that prevents suck back of milk into the tubes

I just purchased the Medela Swing, and I'm kicking myself for not buying it sooner. Highly recommended!
