Infant feeding

breast to bottle at 5 months

any suggestions as to how to wean from breast to bottle? I tried giving dd a bottle at 11 o'clock feed this morning, but she's not having it! Not sure whether I should just try the breakfast feed tomorrow when she'll be hungriest, or to stick with the 11 and just persevere. She has had a bottle before so don't think it's a bottle issue, just a taste thing!

sassybleu, are you giving EBM or formula?

formula. Have given her ebm before and took the bottle fine, so think it's just the change to formula. Not sure of best way to go about it though.

sassybleu, I've posted on LOADS of other threads about my ds not taking a bottle so people will probably go "oh, her again!" but he took EBM from a bottle from when he was very small and then later refused it, deciding that he just preferred the breast! Maybe try again with EBM to see if she will take it. If she will, then you know for sure its the formula that she objects to. In that case my suggestion would be to mix a little formula with loads of EBM and give her that. Then gradually reduce the amount of EBM and increase the amount of formula so that she gradually gets used to the taste. If its the bottle itself she dislikes I'm afraid the only joy we had was when I refused to bf him till he took the bottle. Very distressing for him and for me but it did work!

I AM HAVIMG THIS PROB- MY JV ADVISED WRAPPING THE BOTTLE IN SOMETHING THAT SMELT OF YOU ( A TOP ETC) AND 'HIDING IT' BY BOTTLE FEEDING IN A BF POSITION (SORT OF) - THIS WORKED FOR A BIT AS DS DIDNT REALISE I WASNT BF FOR A WHILE!! ALSO- CATCH THEM WHEN THEY ARE A LITTLE SLEEPY- DS TOOK MORE THEN- I HAD TO GET MY DH AND OTHE FRIENDS/FAMILY TO GIVE DS BOTTL EFOR AGES AS HE WOULDNT TAKE IT FROM ME BECAUSE HE COULD SMELL MILK BUT HE WOULD TAKE LOADS FROM DH IF I WAS OUT OF SIGHT !!

have been without computer for a while so haven't been able to check. Thanks for your advice. I basically just persevered with it and am now down to 2 BFs a day! She grabbed the bottle out of my hand yesterday morning so I think she's got the hang of it!
