I don't know for sure either, but considering they monitor for liver failure among other things when you're on it, and make you take a pg test before prescribing it as it causes horrendous birth defects, my guess is not! (I took it 10 years ago, was fine with it, but definitely wouldn't bf on it).

Fairly sure even Hale says not.
Is very lipid soluble drug so would probably be highly concentrated in breast milk.

Don't have Hale to hand though so prepared to be corrected by someone who does!

How did you get it from a pharmacist?

WUGYouLETMeBiteYourNeck Sun 18-Oct-09 22:10:07

Good point - presume it must be a hospital pharmacist?

Sorry, just when I was prescribed it they were VERY clear about the does and donts and this is a don't! It is likely to pass into your milk and may harm your baby (from the patient product info sheet, I'm on it now)

Have you taken it before? I would not go near it if I had a young baby. In fact I would not go near it ever. Full stop.

Sorry for the hijack - Can I ask why Filibuster? I'm curious I'm on it now.

That's a good idea Starlight although you might get seen faster if you've had it before, I had to wait a week to get a doc appointment as they kept trying to give antibiotics, 6 weeks before seeing a dermatologist then 2 weeks before my first appointment to get samples done, etc, so about 10 weeks from start to taking it the first day.

Hell - I took it as a teen and became very depressed and anxious. It really changed my ability to cope and basically ruined several years of my life. For me nothing was worth the psychological damage. My comment about not taking it after having a baby was about that being an emotionally volatile time in your life already and the last thing I would want is roaccutane playing with my mind. However, we are all different and I hope your experience is a world away from mine.

When I say 10 weeks that was from when I went in to the doc's and cried and said I wasn't leaving until he got me a dermatologist appointment. I had a list of 11 creams/ointments and tablets over the years, so really I waited 12 years! Skin cleared up while pregnant and breastfeeding so was good for 33 months in that time but they wouldn't listen til I cried sad

Thanks for that fili, I'm feeling good as it coincided with me leaving a crappy job and starting college. I think I have every other side effect though <puts eye drops in and lip balm on for the 1000 time today> Have had good results so far and I'm 6 weeks in
