Cranial osteopathy, did it work?

Ds (7weeks) had his second session with the cranial osteopath on Thursday for reflux and wind. I haven't seen any change yet and was wondering how many sessions it took for other people and if it worked?

What did the practitioner tell you about this?

The research evidence for this helping with babies' conditions is very thin (ahem).

She said that most people don't notice a difference until the second session.

My nephew has terrible asthma and it's done wonders for him. I really want it to work but I know it's a complimentary therapy and might not.

I can only speak from my own experience not from any medical view.

My DS2 was always a very tricky baby - we thought he had reflux and many a night was spent in the whole feeding/crying/windy cycle. We took him to see a cranial osteopath at about 11 months when I had to go back to work and couldn't copw with getting up at 5am any more.

After 1 session he slept till 7am and after several session his sleep pattern did settle down to a 6am waking. Not saying it was a cure all but certain things like being very sensitive to sound it really helped with.

I was very sceptical but for us it definatley worked.

It helped with DS1 (induced, stuck in birth canal due to medical mismanagement, in lots of pain as a result of malformed head and aspirating meconium) within a couple of weeks of starting treatment. Also helped with DS2 who had trapped wind/refluxy type issues (natural water birth but cord around neck when born) - but took alot longer to be honest to see results - was about a month and a half after starting seeing the CO that I saw a marked improvement and was fine by 4 months.

It helped us to be able to lie dd down (we think her head was quite compressed and causing her pain every time she was laid flat), but it didn't help much with her reflux. Probably because she turned out to have a milk protein intolerance (which me giving up dairy sorted out instead).

helped very, very much with dd, three sessions

the problem was chronic constipation in bf baby

the effects were marked and noticeable (lol very noticeable) after every session

eventually early weaning saw it off so I don't know how long it would have taken if not for the extra fibre we gave her at about three and a half months

but for immediate effect: incredible

Thanks, good to hear some successful results.

I had a big gap between my first and second session but hopefully will be going weekly now. I hope it works for us.

I took DS for 5 sessions, he was irritable, NEVER slept and always seemed uncomfotable..CO didnt have any effect whatsoever.

DS2 had two sessions and it made no difference, sorry. He chilled out when he was about 11 weeks old, due to the magical power of Infacol!

I don't regret having the CO sessions though, as he was quite calm during the sessions (in contrast to the rest of the time) so it was nice to be able to look at his face when he wasn't crying.

DS2 had 3 sessions and worked fab!

He was a nightmare after the first session and DH had to take him on a midnight stroll in the buggy for an hour after he went beserk crying all evening.

2nd session he slept all day and just woke for feeds.

3rd session he was sooooo chilled.

This was all around DS2 being 4-7 weeks.

He is now feeding better (my main reason for going), rarely gets in a crying state and can settle himself (has not dummy and is not swaddled anymore). Whether it warded of colic I can only assume it did. Before the CO he was hard to settle and very very windy.
