Infant feeding

I have a 2.5 week old baby and one slightly sore nipple. Want to nip it in the bud - any ideas?

Sorry, sorry...I know this has undoubtedly been done many times before, but I'm lacking the willpower to trawl through the archives.

I've BFed two babies with no probs at all. DC3 seems to have a slightly dodgy latch though...I'm following all the "rules" re: positioning, and he goes on with a wide mouth, but then he sort of narrows his latch and the nipple (esp my left one) seems to bob in and out a bit. I have a VERY strong let down, and I suspect he might be doing it to protect himself from the milky onslaught. I take him off while it's spurting out hard, but even the "normal" flow of milk is pretty strong.

My left nipple is getting a bit tender and I think I can see incipient cracks appearing (slightly raw pink lines??).

Oh, and even when when he seems to have a good latch I can often hear sucky noises, kind of like the suction is breaking iykwim.

I'm at a loss as to how to improve the latch (assuming that's the problem). Any ideas?

Make sure your baby is firmly against your body when feeding and LANSINOH cream, after every feed.

K&V - Grrr

StarWhores - have despatched DH to shops for Lansinoh

Any more ideas?

I think the sucky noise thing is because DS2 doesn't have to suck to get the milk out...it just jets out at him, so his mouth only has a loose grip. Maybe it's one of those things that will settle down as I produce less milk? [hopeful]

SC your description of latching sound very much like mine atm...think it's because they're so little and will get better. DD shuts her mouth as nipple approaches and quite often does the sucky noises thing (and nipple goes in and out). don't mind the sucky noises but I always relatch until in and out isn't happening as i think that's a bad latch - can feel it hurting iyswim. Not sure if you agree, just thought I'd mentiuon.

Lansinoh, used it for bfeeding both of mine, with same issue. Worked a treat.

I have the lansinoh on stand-by. ds2 has actually just had a couple of feeds with a much better latch. typical

stealth - yes, i agree that the bobbing in and out seems more significant of a problem, but i don't remember sucky noises happening with my other two...just thought it might be Of Importance how's it all going with you by the way?
