FF Baby Losing Weight - So worried!!

I posted on here last week about my baby that had oral thrush from about a week old. It was finally treated after being misdiagnosed initially and it has now completely cleared up. However, because she had it for so long, she used to take two hours over her feeds, but her weight still maintained along the 25th centile.

A couple of weeks ago, she had dropped to the 9th and I've weighed her myself this evening and since she was weighed by the GP, she has lost 2lbs and is now down to only 9lbs!!

As it turns out, her feeding has improved this week and she is now taking 3/4 of her feed in the first 10 minutes, but isn't taking as much as she was because her stomach needs chance to grow to take more feed quicker.

The GP didn't weigh her today but wanted to weigh her in two weeks to give her chance to recover and get into a better routine with her feeding following the cure of the thrush. But having weighed her ourselves and having such a dramatic weight loss, should I take her to the Doctor as an emergency on Monday?

She is still sleeping 12-13 hours a night and is happy and smiley all the time, only crying when she's ready for a feed.

I'm so scared about her weight loss. She's 16 weeks old on Monday...

i wouldn't rely on home scales for accurate weighing, they are so unreliable.

if the gp isn't worried i would leave it.

ds was the same with his feeding, one time he only had 1/2 an ounce of milk the whole day.

as long as she is taking some milk at each feed i would wait until the next weigh-in at the gp.

is she not being fed in the night then?? i would do dream feeds through the night as they are more likely to take the milk that way, ime anyway.

don;t rely on your scales

how many feeds is she taking in the day?

and how many ounces?

both mine were formula fed and DD in particular dropped weight and centiles during and after illness, and was slow to put it back
on
she would never take a dream feed and slept through from an early age , she fed as much as she wanted during the day

if she is happy, smiling, weeing/pooing etc then wait to get her weight checked properly on proper scales on monday before panicing

HI there,

Thanks all for your responses.

She feeds every three hours through the day and was having 6oz feeds (7ozs when made up) before she was ill, but since being ill, she's dropped back to 5oz feeds (6ozs when made up) and is generally leaving about an oz in the bottom. So she's having betwen 20-25ozs a day (of the made-up feed). But last week, as she was feeling her tongue and milk properly for the first time, she was only taking about 15ozs a day, if that.

She is very happy and giggly and always has at least 2 dirty nappies a day and loads of wet ones.

DH and I have looked in her book and she was 9lbs at 5 weeks which makes me think that we would definitely noticed if she'd lost 2lbs in weight. You can't see her ribs and her cheeks are still chubby, so I'm hoping that the scales are just wrong. I would have expected her to lose some because of last week, so I'm going to try and calm down until we see the HV on Tuesday...

Thank you so much again!!
