Infant feeding

8m baby developing odd BF habits - anyone else?

For some time now DS2 has been training for the 2012 olympics, gymnastic BF event. I honestly don't know how I still have nipples attached.

But now he has started doing something that really freaks me out - twiddling with my nipple whilst he is feeding from it. It is really annoying and I have to constantly move his hand away.

Oh and he has taken to playing with my nips whenever he is not feeding and he gets the chance - and here is the strange bit - he LAUGHS his head off the whole time like they are the funniest things he has ever seen

Does anyone else's baby do any of this, and if so have you any idea how to get them to STOP IT?! (Apart from the last one)

DS does that too - he's 13 months. It's bloody irritating. I hold a hand in each of mine and nurse hands free.

You could try a nursing necklace but he'll only strangle you with it . The only thing that reliably works is a firm 'no' and removing him every time he starts.

DS is also an eye poker

You have my sympathies.

DS is 8mo and he has started pinching me while I feed him - usually in that soft bit under the upper arm, twanging my bra strap, and pushes the breast away while he is feeding, resulting in a lovely stretching effect.

It's not very funny. This last week he has stated trying to have playtime in the middle of the night too - laughing, giggling, kicking and banging his dummy on the sides on the cot, at 2/3/4am, and not settling for about 2hrs.

Grr, good job he's pretty gorgeous the rest of the time

DS is 13 months - he does the twiddling, the stretching thing. His most recent trick is to clamber onto me when he's finished, latch on and then press his head down and blow a huge raspberry on my boob. He thinks this is the biggest joke ever and comes up giggling his head off. He also likes to bat at my boob because it makes it wobble.

Really must put a stop to some of it but it's so hard not to laugh, and DH just creases which only encourages him.

Ohhhhh I remember this SO well!! 2hrs of playtime in the middle of the night, aaaargh1

Just to say, DD is 20mths now, and is only now starting to twiddle again - as WMMC said, the necklaces are just for strangling, NO works about 60% of the time! She stopped from about 10mts till now though - don't know why it's started again!

I think it's a case of ignoring too?

Oh I am so glad I'm not alone! I was considered a nursing necklace but won't bother now. I might invest in a straightjacket though.

The little burger BIT me last night, through my pyjama top, because I wasn't quick enough for him

I don't know if it'll make you feel better or worse but my older toddler actually feels up my boobs and states 'I'll have that one mummy' if she thinks one is fuller than the other

So at least you get some sort of appreciation later on, of sorts

My 7 mo has started doing this. She seems to be perfecting her pincer grip on my nipples and she finds them very fuuny too.

Last night I was attempting to nurse her to sleep but she must just wanted to practice crawling on the bed. Every now and then she'd lean over, pinch my nipple, study it, pull it towards her mouth, suck a bit and then carry on with trying to crawl!

She likes to squeeze my boobs when she's feeding now. That, or pull my hair. Not sure which I prefer - bald patches or bruises. Either way, I am not looking my best lately.

Lol at wmmc, I look forward to a bit of appreciation because the laughing at my boobs is taking me straight back to secondary school at the moment .

Yes my nearly 8m old does this! She is really fond of pulling my hair too and grabbing huge handfuls of boob and twisting and pinching my skin. Sometimes during a feed she un-latches, studies my nipple really intently, twists it about a bit then pulls it (quite violently) back towards her mouth and gets on with feeding.

When she does any of these things I just say to her 'gently with mummy' and take the offending hand in mine and stroke it a little. She then usually resorts to hitting me instead for a bit, but we're getting there! She is doing it less and less now.

She also likes to kick me, bounce up and down, chat and practice crawling during her breakfast BF which I always do in bed (so I can lie down for a bit longer, but it's far from restful!)

Needless to say feeding in public is now a thing of the past. She has a bottle in the afternoon now so we can at least go out during the day!

Lol @ Crazycatlady - that exactly what I say "gently with mummy!"

Doesn't work yet!

Oh yes... My 8.5 month old likes to reach up and grab my chin/nose/lips and scratch/yank it as hard as possible. She got my gum and drew blood earlier today...! (would help if she didn't scream blue murder every time I try and cut her nails)

She also refuses to gently unlatch, instead when she's done she just violently yanks her head around without letting go... Owwwwwwwwwwwww
