Hello.

I BF ds 1 for 6m and am now trying to BF ds2. He is 10d old and I am in agony.

My nipples are cracked and sore although I am sure positioning is ok. MW thinks I may have thrush in my R breast as shooting pains so I have been given cream.

The odd thing is my L breast leaks and is just about bearable to feed from. I am only expressing from the R as so painful although v little milk from this side. Is it possible that only one breast is really producing milk? It always seems full but never seems to properly empty like the L even if I massage it, feed and express. Hope this make sense. I am on the verge of stopping but feel like failure as managed with ds1.

Have you tried phoning the NCT helpline?

muppety - do get proper help. Your nipples are cracked and sore, and it is therefore highly unlikely all is well with positioning. The breasts will never totally empty, though they should of course be comfortable....so many questions come to me reading your post, that all I can say is, please, please call someone who can help and can talk to you properly.

Could you have a blocked duct on the right side. If it is thrush, what cream are you using. I find canesten cream desnt work at all and probably no cream could get deep enough to really work well. How about fluconazole?

Given nystatin ointment and I did wonder is it could get deep enough like you say. Last mw to come said she thought a blocked duct more likely. What is treatment for that?
