My DD is 8 1/2 months old and we both love breastfeeding. I plan to carry on for the foreseeable future and wondered how other mums got on with the "Are you STILL breastfeeding??" comments.

9 months of pure expressing for me, if breastfeeding I think I would have gone to a year- 18 months and then attempted to tail it off (disclaimer: everyone should breastfeed for as long as they and their children want to lol)

I know plenty of mums who bf straight through to cow's milk - 12-14 months or so.

I got a bit bored by 6 months. On to the bottle they went.

still going, ds is 1 next week. Will probably try and drop the last daytime feed within the next few months but will keep feeding him at bedtime and before brekkie for as long as he wants.

2 years. I totally ignored the "Are you STILL breastfeeding??" comments, and continued to feed until my dd didn't want to anymore.

yeah I think the key is to be guided by your lil one

14 months.

Everyone thought it was wonderful that I was still feeding. But after 10 months I hated it so much, I just couldn't stop. I was soooo glad when it was finally over.

Just over 12 months. It was the right time for dd and me to stop. I did miss it though to start with, much more than she did. I coped with the comments because for me I knew it was what I wanted and how much less work and expense it was to avoid bottles and formula and go straight to cows milk in a beaker. I loved breast feeding though and can't wait to do it again with my current bump.

DD1 only exclusively for three months, night and day till 10 months when she dropped it; Dd1 exclusively for six months, with food till around, oooh, 18 months or so, and she still has the occasional snarf, like last night. Much to her father's horror

I find it so much easier and me n Bubba have a lovely closeness, even though she wakes once in night lmao

I've been b/feeding for 4 years now - it will be exactly four years next Tuesday - dd1's birthday. And that has been non-stop!

b/fed dd1 until she self-weaned at 2 years four months. At this point I was tandem-feeding, dd2 is now 21 months old and it doesn't look as if we're stopping any time soon. I thought I would stop at 2, but we'll have to see...

dd is 1 and still bf.
Haven't had many comments, and most have been positive. I am lucky and enjoy it so much, don't care what anyone else thinks really.

18 months, and 8 months so far - will certainly go to 1 year, probably beyond.

wow hats off to all u who carried it on so long. Personally I'm not sure I could feed a little on who was walkign and talking. I bf for 3-4 mnths before cutting it down,s topped at 6 mnths. I'd liek to keep the twins going a bit longer, but that's ebm. I love feeding a tiny baby, but can't say I enjoy it very much as they get bigger.

I breastfed dd till two.

Felt pressure from friends and health visitor to give up at 12 months. And so it i no longer discussed it with those people. It did make me feel like i should give up, although now i've been through it i feel like next time i will proudly feed until 2 yrs or more and not let it get to me.

Health visitor basically told me i was doing my dd no good, only harm by still feeding her!!!!!!!!!!

What infuriates me is all the same people praised me for being able to breastfeed a newborn, but the minute she was over a year it was tuts and frowns, but absolutely no support or advice about how to give up!

Where i was living when dd was one was a pretty grotty area, and i was the only bf mum at the hv clinic, the hv was an idiotic man who nearly fainted when i went and told him i was still bf at a year and said i must stop right now otherwise i'd be feeding at the school gates.

So the moral of the story is is stick your finger up at anyone who tries to tell you you MUST give up or tutts or frowns at you for bf!! Remind yourself what a healthy little girl you have produced and how confident and happy she is because of it.

(OOps you can see this is a big thing for me)
