Holiday question

We are going on holiday to France when my baby will be 18 weeks old. He has been exclusively breastfed so far apart from two odd bottles of formula.

As we are going to France, I would like to be able to have wine each evening. I would like more than one or two glasses (which I would happily breastfeed on).

I was wondering whether I should just buy some formula when we are there to have for a night feed just in case. Up until recently he has been sleeping through after his final 7pm feed. In this case, a few drinks in the evening would not matter as I would not be feeding him til the morning. However, in the last couple of weeks, he has been waking a little during the night (I suspect he is getting hungrier as we are edging our way slowly towards beginning weaning)

I wondered if anyone had a similar experience, and if anyone knew about formula in France? I can speak French so can understand things in the supermarket etc. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

why not just take a few small cartons with you.

I suppose I was trying to save space. We are going in the car with limited space. I suppose being accustomed to breastfeeding I am just not used to thinking about kit and bits!

There is no need for a baby to have formula, just 'cos his mum is having wine each night, even more than one or two glasses ...in my view. Check out the info on alcohol and breastfeeding, Princeonthemove and see if breastmilk with a tiny trace of alcohol (which is all it could be) would be worse than formula...

God, no, you don't need formula!
I went to France lots with my kids when tiny (my sister lives there)and enjoyed many anevening when the wine flowed over along civilised dinner. Breastfed as normal.

You'll be fine as long as you are not going to get hammered, merely merry.

Thanks very much for the advice. I am not one of those people who says 'ooh two glasses and I am drunk!' so I don't consider a bottle plus over a long evening with food anything at all really in terms of my capacity. I would definitely rather avoid formula as breastfeeding suits us so well.
