Infant feeding

Aarrrggh - 5 month old pulling nipple

My 5 month old has always been a really good feeder but just recently has become very nosy about his surroundings and easily distracted.

He's also at the possibly teething but gumming everything in sight stage.

His latest wheeze is to clamp down hard on my nipple and then stretch it to twice its size, Owwwwww

Does this pass? What should I do?

Just the right age for this to begin. Teething will be causing him to pull on your nipple so try some teething gel or powders before a feed. It will pass.
As for being distracted at the breast - this is completely natural as your lo becomes more aware of the world around him. I used breast buddies...beads to keep lo interested and focused during a feed...will try to find link.xxx]wink] Good luck xxx

My DS did this- so sore and made me most fearful of what might happen if he kept doing this with teeth. But it does pass- you could try the biting techniques on www.kellymom.com, I found them helpful. He has bitten me with teeth a couple of times but never with the ferocity of those gummy stretchy bites. Keep going, it will pass! HTH
