Prof Michael Kramer, the man who was quoted in that Times article this week as saying that the benefits of breastfeeding are exaggerated, is going to be on Woman's Hour today. Maybe Mumsnet should get him on for a webchat as well?

he was saying that his remarks were taken out of context

from the womens hour website: "He believes that much of the medical advice on breastfeeding has been distorted by the fierce opposition between pro and anti breastfeeding lobbies"

anti breastfeeding lobbies???? hmm

what time is it on

his main gist seemed to be that some of the supposed benefits of breast-feeding were based on out of date research ie wrt allergies and asthma and there wasn't actually good evidence for protective effects of bf for these particular conditions

but no argument with 'breast is best' overall in terms of health benefits albeit allowing for the fact that some women genuinely struggle with/dislike it and turn to formula as an alternative

so yaboo sucks to the Daily Mail grin

Darn, I missed it and I can't make the "listen again" thingy work.

He was quoted as saying "people don't like complexity", wasn't he? grin

The listen again thingy usually doesn't work until a couple of hours after the broadcast. I missed it too, as at 10am I idiotically hit the 'listen to last broadcast' bit rather than just listening live - I sat through the whole of yesterday's Woman's Hour thinking, "when will the breastfeeding bit start?"
