Infant feeding

i am having problems.....

I seem to have the basics down to a T. I can feed DS so long as I have:-

a) A pillow.
b) A comfy sofa.
c) both hands available.

I would love to be able to feel confident about feeding in public but when I am out I never seem to get a particularly good attachment which causes me to be covered in milk and him to be in a full strop within 5 minutes.

Can someone help me / give me tips on advanced breastfeeding.

Wait a month - things change quickly and often.

You are doing great - still takes me both hands and ds is 1 and dd nearly 3!

I bf both my boys until well past 12 months and ofter fed in public places.

It didn't matter where I sat (floor, bench, sofa, whatever ...) but I always needed two hands and something pillow like for support. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it may turn out that you will always need certain things to be able to feed but that shouldn't stop you feeding in public, just work out what is essential and make a plan. For example I found that my changebag made an excellent improvised pillow. Also take it in stages. Feed as often as possible in places like friends houses so that you can both get used to doing it in an unfamiar place but with the reassurance that it doesn't matter so much if you have a bit of trouble. Also try doing some of your home feeds out of your usual place.
good luck

you are doing really well - nobody can breastfeed in public without spraying the world with milk at least a few times! a friend of mine sprayed all over the garden at number 10 once!! i agree about the sofa - i actually feed lying down at home because sitting up is so hard on the back. try a breastfeeding cafe for a few visits until you feel a bit more confident about different positions and chairs, you don't have to worry about what everyone else thinks there. it's all just practice! you'll be fine.

It took me ages to be able to feed outside as I too feel more comfortable with a cushion. I used to get a dreadful latch and be quite sore.

But what I've found is that BF is an organic process and changes as you and your baby changes.

It just takes time and practice.

If somebody had told me just six weeks ago that I'd be feeding DS cross legged and no hands i'd have told them where to get off!

Go easy on yourself, practice and improvise!
