Not sure if one nipple is slightly inverted, how do I tell?

I'm permanently overthinking the whole breastfeeding malarky (se my numerous threads ). My latest worry is that one nipple is slightly inverted. I have had a breast reduction, so my nipples aren't exactly as nature intended them.

I read in my BFAR (breastfeeding after redcution) book, that if you 'roll' the nipple and it goes in, it is inverted. Well mine does both, depending how you roll it. It does go erect when cold/aroused etc and when I've been messing with my breast pump, it has come out into the pump each time.

What do you reckon and is any action required?

yes, sounds like it may well be. Can you see a slit rather than a nipple shape?

I have very inverted nipples and to be honest it caused big problems with breastfeeding - I got to the point of stopping (the final straw was when I turned on the light in the night and saw my little boy's mouth was full of blood - from my nipple) until a friend suggested trying a nipple shield, which works very well. I've made it to 8 1/2 weeks so far!

That's not to say you will have the same problems, but best to be aware. All the midwives/breastfeeding advisors etc all said that inverted nipples don't cause a problem. But sometimes they do, and if you recognise it you can take steps to sort it out.

No, it looks like a normal nipple, its just if you 'roll' it, sometimes it goes in.

Well done you for making it to 8 1/2 weeks, thats fab
