is she breastfed? if so she shouldn't need water.

But dd used to spit water out too - I gave her water with a tiny splash of peach juice instead. Didn't do that at 3 weeks though - about 6 weeks I think, though I'm not sure what the age should be.

are you BF starshaker?
(disclaimer: it is not my intention to get in to a debate just asking a question)

because BF babies do not need water, just breast milk from their feed or a bit of a top up if it's extraordinariy hot

Other than that I don't think it would be a good idea to buy a commercially made flavoured water, why not put a drop of pure apple juice in it and see if that makes a difference?

I thought bottle-fed babies at that age should only have bottle milk, too, surely?

And at any rate, it needs to be boiled water.

i mix a wee splash of juice in dd's water. but she was also over 1 year old when we started doing that.

Boots used to sell them when dd was a baby, I'm not sure if they still do and what age they are suitable from. I know it was a matter of weeks though.

Boots still do nice flavoured water but I wouldn't do that yet. DS was quite a bit over 6 months (he was formula fed) before we did that. Even then, not that often. It's expensive and IMO it's better to stick with plain water most of the time.

ponka - do they still do the ones suitable from a lot younger - water with a hint of flavour? They used to be in little jars that it was possible to screw a bottle teat straight on to.

My DS would just spit the water out at that age, I would not worry if she is thirsty she will drink it. The flavoured water should not really be used until 4 months old.

i gave my baby the powder you add to the water from boots at about 6 months he hated it,saying that however he only will drink water and a little bit of tea.

Yeah Boots do lots of different flavours from 4 weeks but again my dd wouldn't entertain it.

It just got spat all over me.

Boots used to do them labelled from 4 weeks but due to a change in the regulations they are now only allwoed to market them as suitable from 4 months onwards. Personally I did use them but only from about 3 months onwards. A 3 week old baby should not need water and I'm rather appalled at your HV giving youthis advice. My bottlefed daughter at 12 weeks only took tiny sips of it so they were a waste of money anyway.

Sugar water is somtimes used as a cure for colic, perhaps you should try that rather than giving her something which she isn't really ready for yet.

if u are going to give the baby water why not just cooled boiled water?
do u know about the incidence of tooth decay from falvoured waters? my firend just told me this morn of a 18mth old who had 11 teeth out due to falvoured water, its not a myth she knows the mother, who thought she was doing great

remeber a baby doesnt know any other taste, so just persist with plain water eventually they ll take it.

my dd was at a party last night and asked if she wanted 7up and she said no water, and she was asked again are u sure would u not like some 7up?

all she takes is milk and water at 2 1/2.

if she has wind, have u used infacol?
or gripe water?
wind goes with the territory and she maybe 16wks before she gets over it.

Don’t worry @Cm7638009 - OP’s baby is a teenager now, I expect they’re drinking water just fine Grin

FFS what is it with all these ancient threads being bumped these days? Can't people be bothered to check the date of the first post? Confused
