Infant feeding

DD2 hasn't had a BF in 2 days. I am weeping and Dh has told me to come here for support!

He just doesn't get it

DD2 is 20 months old and has been ebf. She started cutting down recently and after feeding DD1 for over a year, then being pregnant, and then feeding DD2 I was quite happy to let her.
She has been asking for BF's in the morning and sometimes at night, but has been having cows milk at night as well, but she hasn't asked or had a BF since yesterday morning, and I just realised and burst into tears.

Dh (to his shame) laughed at me when I told him why I was weepy. So I am here where you will understand and give me a slap for being silly at DD2 stopping BFing when that is what I wanted!

i was gutted when ds2 weaned and I know exactly how yuo feel.
it IS sad, it's a huge thing that's been part of your life for so long. it's nice that she has weaned herself though

She was helped to wean by me distracting her at normal Bfing times. This is why DH finds it so bizarre as I have been waiting for her to wean so I can start dieting properly, go away for the weekend without children for first time in years, not be here for bedtime etc etc..all selfish mummy things!

thanks for hugs though

It is a sad stage plus stopping bf means there are hormonal changes, which is another reason to feel weepy

I prescribe chocolate and wine

Ah bless you - DD is also at this stage but she's much older now soooooo....she went two days this week without asking and she regularly misses days now. I'm quite happy for her to wean now, especially as DS is nearly a year but very much a milk monster.

I felt utterly desolate when she first started skipping days but she's just growing up. DD told me 'I love you mummy and I love your boobies but I'm a big girl now and I can't have booby at preschool so I have cup milk'

HAve snaffled the skittles bag hiding in my secret cupboard and DH is off to get wine.

I just need not to crack and feed her when if she wakes at 4am. Last night she was wailing, I gave her a teeny sip of water and she screeched for about 10 seconds, gave a big sigh, and then went straight back to sleep in my arms

Ah yes I love that, the faux crises at 4am - DS will wail ceaselessly at me, DH picks him up, he grins, farts and goes straight back to sleep

It's worse as she shares a room with DD1, and if her eyes open after 3am she insists that it is morning and won't go back to sleep, so I have to go and shut DD2 up asap by whatever means!

my dd1 is 20 months as well and now often goes several days without bf. I know there is not much milk left and part of me feels happy that she is self weaning but another part of me feels so sad that this stage is ending. I know exactly how you feel, so no advice for you really other than to let yourself grieve a little bit and then move on to the next stage.

And my DH definitely doesn't get it either, especially as I was moaning 6 months ago about wanting to wean dd!!!

I am in the process of weaning DD3 (11 mos) from daytime bfeeding, as I have to go back to work in 4 weeks. I understand your position completely - she is my last baby, and it's so sad to have this go, but on the other hand, I'll have some freedom through the day (though don't really want to go back to work).

She is very angry with me, though, and headbutts my boobs and bites me in an attempt to get what she wants

It'll be great when you have that first boozy night out though, Jack

No feed last night, she woke up to yell at me about 1am but went back down after a sip of water. Hasn't asked for any this morning

Have started thread here to try and persuade me not to give in
