6 week growth spurt?

DS is 6.5 weeks old -- haven't noticed major growth spurt or feeding frenzy but he has been taking a bit more than usual today I think. He is totally breastfed and has been gaining weight well.

It's 11pm here, I'm totally knackered so I'm going to give him top up of EBM which was in the freezer. Question is... will this be a vicious cycle because I'm not getting stimulation?

Also I have a very sore nipple - it's been bad on and off on one side and today is agony. It's not cracked - more like bruised. DS seems to chomp down on that side ... midwife checked latch and thought it's OK, but it is always painful on that side. It's another reason why I've had enough for today...

So that's 2 questions really. Is it a slipperly slope giving EBM during growth spurt, and what can I do about him chomping down on me?

TIA wise mumsnetters...

It CAN be a vicious cycle. I am desperately trying to get out of said cycle right now due to giving formula while I had thrush.

if your nipple seems bruised then it sounds like the positioning isn't right.
Try speakingto a b/f counsellor... they can help...

I am sure there will be people here in a mo with some helpline numbers for you!

also meant to say, if it's just a one-off top up then it probably won't do any harm!

you could give the EBM but then also exp-ress again later. should hurt less than babies bite

have you tried nipple sheilds to give yourself a chance to heal while still feeding?
