a) Your well-meaning but clueless best friend
b) Your interfering MIL/insert interfering person here if like me you have a mostly lovely MIL
c) Your DH/DP
?

AitchTwoOh Sun 17-May-09 19:04:55

i would use it to dry dishes.

flamingobingo Sun 17-May-09 19:05:21

Link?

ruddynorah Sun 17-May-09 19:06:38

i could only assume it was a joke as none of those 3 people would seriously think i'd take it any other way. even FIL wouldn't get me one, he just used to take his glasses off when i was feeding dd1, i expect he'll do the same with dc2.

StealthPolarBear Sun 17-May-09 19:06:55

Oh aitch I think they're rain-coat material aren't they (to also protect the nervous public from squirty milk), I don't think they'd do a very good job.
Link coming up!
BTW this is not a thread about a thread, we were discussing these on another thread, but this is a spin-off. Just wanted to make that clear

hooter hider? What a hideous name! Is that what they are called?

StealthPolarBear Sun 17-May-09 19:08:07

hide those hooters in style!
Maybe I'm wrong about the fabric - they do look just like material.
lol at taking glasses off!

ruddynorah Sun 17-May-09 19:08:28

i saw a woman in a cafe using one. my god did i feel sorry for her. more people were staring at her thinking wtf is that???! than would have done if she'd just done the old vest down top up method.

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino Sun 17-May-09 19:09:51

a) she was trying to be nice but obviuously doesn't know me (so just doesn't work as bf wouldn't buy me one

b) probably take offence quietly in my own head

c) he wouldn't

and shit they are ugly....like paisley aprons

StealthPolarBear Sun 17-May-09 19:09:55

although they'd be handy in a shop if you fancied doing a bit of shoplifting.
"No it's twins you idiot. What do you mean can you have a look - you pervert" <SLAP>

ellingwoman Sun 17-May-09 19:10:03

Ahhh! Fog clears. I thought it was something to do with covering the nose. For swine flu. blush

As you were.

StealthPolarBear Sun 17-May-09 19:11:34

Well I think you may have come up with another use - well done.
Shall I write to the manufacturers

"When you move on from breastfeeding, cut your hooter hider into small triangles to make stylish but practical face masks for all the family"

ruddynorah Sun 17-May-09 19:11:52

they are really just aprons with no ties.

mummyhill Sun 17-May-09 19:16:55

I would laugh my head off.

Divvy Sun 17-May-09 19:17:31

No wonder people think breastfeeding should be hidden and is dirty and should only be done in private...or a public toilet....

My 9 month old flashed my boobies today! He is a bugger for doing it now!

ellingwoman Sun 17-May-09 19:18:56

It looks like she's trying to hide a dead body.

AitchTwoOh Sun 17-May-09 19:21:23

lol elling. you just know a man came up with the name.

Verity79 Sun 17-May-09 19:51:28

That they thought I really like lobster grin
Vile things, they're a bit like the bfing equivalent of a red cross on the door when in medieval times.

mawbroon Sun 17-May-09 20:12:11

shock I thought Hooter Hider was the hilarious MN name for them! I didn't realise that was really what they are called. shockshock

StealthPolarBear Sun 17-May-09 21:49:40

lol mawbroon
We'd come up with a better name... the nork nuker...boob buster...

DitaVonCheese Sun 17-May-09 22:41:31

The Mawbroon Rollmeister TM wink

To answer OP, I would thank them graciously, assume they mean well, and eBay it grin

BofftheToff Mon 18-May-09 10:12:25

ROFL!! grin grin grin

Personally speaking I would find some pretext to take my entire top off and bf naked from the waist up as a protest.

However it should be noted that breastfeeding burqas hooter hiders are not the biggest affront to bf women these days. Oh no. Try these.

Silly Sombrero Hat

For the fundamentally religious

melpomene Mon 18-May-09 10:17:52

That sombrero made me smile! I think it's better than the hooter hider because it's still obvious she's bfing a baby instead of hiding it. I can't see it staying on a wriggly baby's head for long, though.

StealthPolarBear Mon 18-May-09 10:28:58

breastfeeding burqas
