Infant feeding

can't decide which option is best...

5 week old DD, who is completely bottle fed now and loosely in the GF routine but not strictly, went down last night about 7.30, fed again at 10.30 (us waking her up) and then didn't wake until 6am.

Now obviously it was great as previously she's been waking at 3/4am for a feed and I didn't get disturbed last night but the downside is that at 6am, she was very hungry and I wasn't able to re-settle her after a small feed so we ended up starting our day at 6am. I dont know if it will happen again anyway but do you think that at her age i'd be better off trying to get her to take another feed at 3/4am until she's old enough and taking enough milk to go through to nearer 7am or should I just try harder to re-settle her if it happens again?

what do you think?

Personally, at this age if she woke I'd feed her, if not I'd leave her until she did wake.

agree with soupdragon, i'ld just go with the flow. 10.30 till 6 a.m. is pretty good going for 5 weeks!

DD dropped the middle of the night feed at 5 weeks. If she drained the bottle I gave her in the morning I would just give her some more. I would then put her back to sleep (and myself) and our day would start at 10!

McKenzie, ds is blooming 7 months and still gets up about 5.30 am - and that's after feeding all night too. Just honestly think it depends on the baby... Sorry, not helpful. Good luck

You are SO lucky! If I were you I'd just go to bed a bit earlier if you are tired, and take turns with your dh/dp to take the baby at six am while the other has a sleep until 7am.

did you say 'take turns with my DH' aloha?????
You've obviously never met my DH. I love him to bits and he has some very very good points but he doesn't 'do' mornings!!
Anyway, I reckon by posting on here I'll have tempted fate and the little love will wake at 2am, 4am and then 6am (like she did just the other week!!!)

I'm off to bed just now for some catching up sleep. Fingers crossed everyone has a good night.
