I am bfing 9 month old ds. I have deep tissue pain in my right breast that extends to armpit. It hurts so much, was painful all last night and i felt really ill, headachy and hot (but dh had left heating at 24 deg overnight so may be part to blame)

just had a bath, feel whacked....gp tomorrow? any home remedies?

could be mastitis? If it is you need to keep feeding off that breast.

poor you, hope you feel better soon

Sounds like mastitis.

Keep feeding and take paracetamol. If you feel no better tomorrow go and see the GP.

Hope you feel better soon, mastitis is horrid.

Definitely sounds like mastitis. Keep feeding from the breast if possible. HOt flannels or massage might help clear a blockage, but if you have a temp too and feel flu-ey I would be tempted to make early trip to GP for antibiotics.

I have been (reluctantly) still feeding, but feeding hurts, is that normal too?

will dr want to examine me or just listen to explanation?

Normal to hurt when you have mastitis. My GP asked to see but it was literally unclip bra, expose breast, "yes that's mastitis" from arms length (but then she doesn't like touching people )

TBH if it is bad I would ring your out of hours service rather than wait until tomorrow.

Feeding thru mastitis is the best way to clear it (I have had it twice - once with ABs and once without)

your Dr may well examine you. My doctor just needed to look.

Keep topped up with painkillers - cocodamol are good and can be taken with bf. When you are feeding, breath deeply rather than holding your breath thru the pain. Massage works. When you get in the shower massage your breast from where it hurts towards the nipple to try and clear the blockage.
Drink lots of water and get as much rest as you can. And try and make sure that your breast is empty after you have fed from that side.
