If you don't leak/see any signs of colostrum during pregnancy - does that mean you'll struggle more to produce milk?

Many pregnant friends have mentioned leaking boobs towards the end of pregnancy. I didn't get any colostrum leaking last pregnancy, even when I tried squeezing my nipples. Same thing seems to be happening this time around.

I struggled to produce milk last time. Is there any correlation between leaking/seeing signs of colostrum in pregnancy and having good milk supplies?

I didn't have anything during pregnancy and my milk came in within 24 hours of giving birth. I never experienced any problems with breastfeeding.
Congratulations btw.

I never had any milk leak during pregnancy, I'm not having any in this one either despite feeding my toddler too. I like to think I'm just efficient!

I never leaked during pregnancy but always had plenty of milk. Did have problems with feeding all 3 though (which I sorted out) but no problems related to milk production - just latch, pain etc!

Another who has never had any leakage during pregnancy, but has had no problems this time.

I don't think there is a link tbh.

Do you know what was wrong last time, have you thought about speaking to a bfing councellor before you have your baby?

I'm ok thanks PuzzleRocks. A bit worn out as they're still coming but nothing much is happening. 26+1 today so on the home stretch now.

Thanks all that's really helpful and reassuring to know that you can get a good supply up without leaking furiously during pregnancy!

Wherethe I had a c-section and am trying to determine how much that made things difficult - the jury seems to be out as to how much of an effect that can have on milk supply/milk coming in..

I also had twins so I can see I that would have made things more challenging!

Just expecting the one this time around so was hoping it would be easier to breastfeed -although I'll probably have to have a section again due to various factors so I'm not sure whether that will make things more difficult again to establish supply/get feeding going.

Have never leaked before the babies were born, breastfed them both, DS1 for 8 weeks DS2 for 8 months.
I have not leaked this time either so do not anticipate any problems.

I never leaked a drop in pregnancy or during the whole time I produced milk - but there was ample. A lot of people worry about this I think (I did during my last pg but this time I know there is nowt to worry about).

Maybe some of us have better nipple seals or something

Never leaked when pregnant or could get any colostrum. In fact, never leaked afterwards and have always had plenty of milk.

Crikey, I've been leaking (mainly at night) since 5 1/2 months - and this week it actually looked milky and not clear. Still only 32 weeks, so that's a lot more leaking til baby arrives! Where did you get your nipple seals provinciallady, can I have some?

no, never had any leakafe in either prev pg (or this one yet - 23 weeks) and I never leaked when feeding either

had no probs producing enough milk

I leaked milk from about 22 weeks onwards and thought, wahey, it's a sign that it's all going to go fabulously...

BUT I had an abysmal breastfeeding experience with ds who wouldn't latch on and I had no 'let-down' when I used the pump and therefore couldn't express. Despite waking up soaked with the stuff every time.

So no, I don't think there is any correlation.
Apologies for going off on one!

No leaking here, not a drop! I had a 9lb7oz monster who was exclusively BF till 6 months and never dropped off the 98th centile. so no correlation here.

That's brilliant scorpio! Tis nice to hear of others' successes

Does it make you wish you'd bf the first 2?

If I were to have another I'd almost definitely NOT bf due to past experience, which makes me v

I had no leaking when pg but plenty of milk after. I can't imagine there is a link but have no expertise in this matter!
