2nd hand breastpumps...

I have a Medela electric breastpump and a friend (not that close) is due to give birth in about three weeks.

She has mentioned buying one herself but i was wondering whether just to lend/give it to her?

Would you use a secondhand breastpump or would it be a bit gross?

I was given one by a MNer who I've never met!

I've never used a 2nd hand one but wouldn't have a problem with it. You sterilize them after each use anyway. I'm sure she would be very grateful.

Some are OK and some are not. Ebay has a notice about that here

I got one second hand from SIL, it was an AVENT hand pump. As far as I'm concerned it's all getting sterilised anyway and it's not like it's someone who doesn't know you.

After all, hospitals have breast pumps and I'm quite sure they don't give every mum a brand spanking new one!

I would say offer it and if she says no don't take offence. She may feel it's a bit yukky but there's no logical reason why she should.

I'd use it. She can always order the cups/tubes as extras from Medela anyway. I hired one from them and they sent new bits.

Thanks for the advice

I'll offer it to her and then it's up to her if she uses/accepts it.
