If you had told me on the day my DS was born that I would be sitting here breastfeeding my boy on the day he is 26 weeks (which must make him that magical age of 6 months) I would have laughed. I said I'd give up when the thrush cleared(both times), then at 3 months, then when he got teeth, then at 5 months...and I'm still here. And you know what? I'm really proud of myself and haven't set a stop date. I just wanted to share that with you. That, and to let those of you who are in the "I'll just get through today" camp that it can be really lovely even if you hate it at first. Honestly.
Enough rambling. Just wanted to pat myself on the back.

I am feeling pleased with myself for getting to 6 months too. And I haven't had thrush or teeth to deal with! Not even blocked ducts (which I had with DD.)

Now its hard though - do I stop? When do I stop? I'll have to soon as my nursing bras are in a sorry state and I cannot afford to get another set of them!

I fed my DD till she was a year - I never intended to for so long, but it just sort of carried on... After 9 months she was only having a before bed feed, and by 12 months, she naturally stopped herself. Good on you for keep going at it - I had friends from NCT group trying to make me feel conscious about still feeding at a year - but, I didn't see a problem with it. She went straight to having cow's milk, too, so I didn't have that (what appears to be) time consuming transition from breast to bottle! Keep at it as long as you can and want to and keep feeling proud!

It's 53 weeks tomorrow for me and dd and if you had told me I would have made it this far when I was really struggling at 4 months I would have laughed in your face!!

winkygirl - not sure when I will stop either, I must admit I found mums who did extended bf a bit odd a few years ago and now here I am - live and learn! (not sure what I thought was odd )

New name as I used to be turtle23 and was mortified by the number of threads which basically read "I hate breastfeeding...make me stick at it" that I posted.
Thanks everybody...it's very nice to hear. DH is desperate for me to stop "to get his wife back" and I now just smile.
Am trying for number two again in just a few days' time though, so can see what he's saying. A bit.

Will your DH be persuaded by the evidence? Mine was fully supportive of bf when DS was a baby but when he got a bit older he started to wonder when I would stop. Some facts about the goodness in it even after 6mo (plus a nasty D&V bug where milk was all he'd keep down) and DH has been converted!
Although I have a feeling that DS being 2 will be another of those persuasion milestones...
