getting pregnant while breastfeeding,

Hello, can anyone give me any info about this or have experience
I have a 15 month old son and am eager to become pregnant with number 2. I am still breastfeeding but only once a day and this is at about 10.30 at night. (Mostly because I still enjoy the closeness and bond). At most he would have some milk in the morning, then there would be over a 12 hour gap between breastfeeds. In between he eats really well.
My periods returned in July but have not settled into a regular cycle. I believe that I am ovulating.
Do i stand a better chance if I stop feeding completely. Though I know someone who got pregnant and never started their periods again and was BFing. Most people I know say that you can get pregnant whilst Bfing? Anyone have a clue.....
Thanks

Well my son is nine weeks old, his sister is 23 months old and I'm feeding both the little buggers and have been since birth for both of them. DD was feeding round the clock when I got pregnant - twice - miscarried the first one.

I was tipped off by cervical mucous but had no periods. If you think you are ovulating you probably are and if you don't want to give up don't - one feed a day is unlikely to prevent you ovulating.

My DD is 10 months and I am 6 weeks PG still feeding 2-4 times per day and had 2 periods back before I fell. I'm hoping to feed through this PG and beyond.

I think the fertility/bf-ing thing is a sliding scale - the more often you feed, the less fertile you are (as a general rule of thumb). I think it's true to say that frequent nightfeeding is particularly associated with lowered fertility.

The fact that you're only feeding once a day should mean that your fertility is not much affected. Why not give it a try, and if you haven't been successful after about six months you could review the situation?

HOORAY!!!!!!! Thank you ladies...that is reasuring news. I guess we just need to keep on trying!! I am ever so reluctant to give up that one last feed, though I plan to at about 18 mths. I still love to be curled up with my son, stroking his hair and cuddling while giving him a little feed at night. It's just the most tender feeling...
So i am thankfuly to hear that it is possible to become Preggers.....

yes you can get pregnant whilst BFing as you ovulate first before you see a period.

I was still BFing my 8 mo old DD(three or four feeds a day), and had been having fairly irregular periods since she was 9 weeks old (between every 7 - 10 weeks ish).

DH and I took a gamble two weeks into my new cycle......and then three days later I ovulated (CM alerted me). In spite of fervent hopes that I wasn't pregnant...hey presto. I'm now 7.5 months gone!
