If you missed the new tonight here is the clip. Morgan was fabulous!!

I found the Children's Commissioner's comments particularly pithy.

I find it disgusting that children are held in detention - bad enough adults

one of my friends was held in one for 4 months, and he found it so difficult, let alone a child. sick bastards

Yes - and when you find out that these vulnerable mothers (who are often removed from their home with no notice or even time to pick up nappies or clothes) are not given breastfeeding support it makes your stomach turn, doesn't it?

Until then you find out that these babies are only given one bottle of formula, which they must finish (and show the guards the empty bottle) before they are allowed a new one. And they are given no refrigeration in their cells rooms. So the formula goes off, and children - like Baby C - get gastroentirits.

I thought it would take a child's death to make the UK Government sit up and take notice - I hope to be proved wrong.

Well done Morgan.

I like the Prof, he seems like a nice guy and made his case really well.

Awful place. A lot of the women there are rape survivors too - it must be so traumatic for the to be in there.

Not to mention the baby girls there who are under threat of female genital mutilation, of course.

Go UK!! We're number one!

Thanks for posting this. Amazing how 9 months maternity leave leaves you out of touch with your job.

Prof Al is great, I have been in many meetings with him and the Home Office and he is pretty hard to shut up!

As an immgration lawyer I knew Yarls Wood was bad, but this shocked me still.

Imagine living in a country where asylum seeking children are excluded from the protection of law and treaties .

Al rocks.

When they interviewed me, they hadn't got him interviewed yet. I was so grateful when he came on when it aired! Not only was he in a much better place to say stuff, I no longer felt the honus was on me to not Muck Things Up! (I said a few sharp things about Yarl's Wood myself).

I was a complete wreck about it, and then he appears and tramples them underfoot! phew

I went to find his article in the New Statesman today... www.newstatesman.com/law-and-reform/2008/09/children-detention-immigration and found this.... which everyone here should remember well..

I'd given my permission months ago, and no one had told me!

I get older every time...
