OK

I am away for a couple of days from lunchtime today with intermittent computer access, so if she posts later and I don't answer, that's why.

How old is your baby, needsupport?

I can't think why expressing would help with this, though....why did the HV suggest it?

How often is he feeding? Do you use both side (or more) at each feed? Is he growing well and thriving?

hes 9 months and my hv said if it was slowing up expressing would help kick start things and build it up again?

hes feeding about 4/5 times during the day and were down to twice during the night now

i was feeding on just one side per feed but i was told i should swap him over half way through so im doing that now.

hes on 3 meals a day so eats ok

I see, thanks!

If there is any suggestion your milk is reducing (and 6-7 feeds a day at nine months should be fine....it's when the feeds are less frequent that milk supply decreases) then simply feeding more often is far better (and usually easier) than expressing at increasing the supply. Use at least both sides per session, waiting for the baby to give the 'cue' he wants to swap, by observing him slow down and lose interest (or in your case, head butting...?) . Some babies want a bit of a rest in the middle of the feed, and then perk up again. Sometimes, head-butting babies are 'asking' to be taken off the breast for a few minutes to burp, wriggle or chat

Hope this helps a bit. I'm aware I don't know your full story. Calling one of the bf lines will help you, too, as you can talk properly then.
