Breast-feeding: when did your periods return?

I am still breast feeding DS who is now nearly 7 months old. I usually feed about 2-4 times in the day and usually a couple of times in the night. Other than that, DS now has solids for all other meals and eats a lot, so I only really BF for comfort / snacks now. Yet I still haven't had a period and wondered what other people's experiences were. It seems that all the BF mum's I have spoken to all got their periods months ago! I'm wondering what has happened to mine (definitely not pg!)

I don't think I had any until ds was about a year old. I was still feeding 3x a day then.

Last Thursday

...

DD is 9.5 months old .. weaned at 6 months .. been on 1 - 2 breastfeeds for about a month now (night-time only)

BTW DS went onto formula at 3.5 months and my periods didn't come back till 8 months so I don't think its that closely related

Lucky you HelloMama - mine came at 7 months and my milk dried up (honestly) - I miss breastfeeding (so does ds) and I HATE periods - enjoy!

At around 5 months, when still doing 5-6 feeds a day, but hasn;t made any difference to milk supply or anything else.

Felt unlucky, thought it was supposed to be one of the perks!

Totally gutted I've had 3 since DD was born nealry 7 months ago (not counting post birth bleed) DD totally BF until 5 and a bit months now on 3 meals a day and 6 breastfeeds.

Nurse said if you go longer than 4 hours between feeds it can trigger ovulation.

I've had two since DS was born 14 weeks ago .

Thought I was going to be in for a pleasant few months in that department. Unfortunatly not!

Mine was less than 2 months after dd was born and it was my birthday. I continued to bf for another 14 months.

wow - thanks for all your replies. Seems a really mixed experience as I guess you would expect. I don't miss periods at all, but I just know I'm going to be caught by surprise when they come back, like whilst taking DS swimming lessons .

Just being curious, but did you have any warning it was going to happen or was it a surprise for you too? (of course you don't have to answer that one!)

Hi - just adding my two pence b/c am awake anyway with pg cravings and can't face bed yet in my starving condition...

I bf twins till 2 years old... my period returned when they were nine months. Have to be honest and say that initially was rather chuffed to see it had actually come back; then reality set in and was like: NO! Go away again!!!

My period came back at exactly 7 months ... exactly 4 weeks to the day after going from 4 feeds a day to 3 .... Not sure whether that had any link but I found it interesting ....
