Just wondered if anyone had any experience of dropping ff feeds in favour of cows milk earlier than 12 months? Formulas seem to make ds either constipated or the opposite. Friends who have had children earlier (when the advice was different) have had no probs. He eats 3 good meals a day?

i wouldnt tbh, and certainly not from as young as 7m. there will always be people telling you that they did it and their lo was fine, but can you really take the risk? speak to your hv about trying a specialist formula, iirc formula is made out of cows milk (among other things) anyway, so perhaps try a lactose-free milk instead?

I know it sounds daft but my instinct tells me that cows milk isn't the problem - he was exploding his nappy on aptamil and sma has sent him the other way. I might sound thick but what is the difference between ff and cows milk? He eats so well that I can't believe he isn't getting the right vitamins and minerals from his food.

I think cows milk doesn't have the calories or the added benifits of formula/ breastmilk. Iron, antibodies and suchlike.

it's reconmended as part of a meal but not on its own untill 12 months. Have you tried soya formula, ready made cartons, more than two brands? The reconmendations are there with research that backs them up. They also have your babies best interest at heart. I would talk to your GP/HV before you decide to go down this path. They should be able to find a sloution.

iirc fm has been processed so that its not as harmful to the baby's gut. introducing cows milk so early can cause allergies and long term gut problems.
