LOL something i heard today from an older lady to a new mummy!! She was saying she did try and BF baby but found she wasnt producing enough so was expressing to get her levels up but commented shes now FF. Lady said "oh well SMAs the sme as BM anyway" it took all my control not to go into a hissy fit
was also concerned as mum of LO said she has tried 3 different types of milk!

Haven't we been here before? (like a million times?)

I was actually about to ask if you have a death wish, before reading your OP.

Sadly most people don't think about what formula is made from.

That's what the manufacturers would have you believe. They made some silly claim about it being close to breast milk when my son was small.

He didn't think so though on the one occasion he was screaming with hunger between feeds and I'd popped out for an hour. DH was advised to give him a bottle and his tummy didn't take to it at all... he was ever so poorly.

I felt so guilty when I got back

she isnt judging that the mum is FF, lisad123 first dd was FF anyway.

just the whole marketing on formula.

didnt SMA used to say 'closer to breastmilk' on the tin about 8years ago? does it still say it now?

SMA is not the same as Breastmilk, why don't people see that.. Its a good way to feed your baby if you don't BF but its not the SAME!!!!!

Im not judging the mum, her choice, her baby, but was shocked that people still believe its the same!

Perhaps older lady was trying to reassure new mummy?

Taken from SMA's website...

"SMA Gold contains Alpha-protein?, a key protein in breast milk. The levels of Alpha-protein in SMA Gold bring it closer to the protein profile found in breast milk.

? alpha-lactalbumin"

"SMA Gold now has the closest whey protein profile to that of breast milk, making it the ideal choice for bottle fed babies, or to complement breast feeding."

Not that all terms are still relative, but the scale they are on is not defined....

the older lady was just trying to make the mum feel better.
i am sure she was not trying to proffer advice under the guise of being an expert
no hissy fit required, surely

i didnt have a hissy fit though did I?! I didnt comment anything to the mum at all, or the older lady either. If someone wants to FF, that their choice, and tbh I FF DD1 from 4 weeks and DD2 had to have FF for 3 weeks while i was in hospital.
