Hi my 1 year old has 2 bottles of cows milk a day of about 9oz. This morning i decided to give him his milk out of a beaker (about 4-5oz) and he drank it all, i'm still going to give him his bottle at bedtime though - what does everyone else do?

When my ds was this age i also gave 2 cows milk drinks a day, both from cups.He had milk from a bottle at bedtime until about 12 months and then i switched to a cup.

I'm still on 2 bottles - one in morning and one at bedtime and have been wondering how to stop! I will have a go at a morning beaker too.

I give my 19 month old 1 cup milk am and cups of water dilute juice during rest of day, but he still has a bottle at night - have only just stopped breastfeeding him and so I think the sucking action is comforting for him.........

(this is obviously all in my mind and he doesn't care one hoot but there you go {wink})

We've just tried to give DD (16 months) a beaker in the morning instead of a bottle and she won't have a bit of it, so she now has NO milk in the morning! If she'd have it from a beaker I'd be happy with that, but it does seem that she eats a lot more for breakfast. During the day she has water or diluted fruit juice in a beaker and I am going to continue with her bottle of (cow's) milk at bedtime. I'm sure there'll be a nutural cutting off point for that but not there yet.

How old is your DS?

my ds is 12months and 2 weeks, he's been on 2 bottles since about 10months. I presumed everyone else's 1 year olds were having theres out of cups and started to panick. He took the beaker ok and it fits 6oz in altogether so i will try and continue with that hopfully. I just have visions of my son being 6 and still having a bedtime bottle!! Do they wean thierselves off it or is there an age i should stop it?

if he takes the beaker ok in the morning why not try doing it for the night-time one just to see how he gets on. My ds ended up just on beakers of milk from 10 1/2 months as he wasnt fussed what his milk came out of. He has his milk downstairs once he gets his jammies on and then we just do stories when we get upstairs (he doesnt have a daily bath as part of his routine)

My DD is 1.8 and has 2 cups of milk per day, once after waking up and again before bed.
She drinks a total of about 300-400ml using a cup with a straw top.
For the rest of the day she drinks water.
I heard that the guidelines here in Japan are that young children need 300ml of milk per day for calcium intake etc.

the UK guideline is also approx 300/350mls from the age of 1. DS still has a lidded cup for his milk twice a day at the age of 22 months.
